Oof…Takashi Komatsu, Taku Shimada, and Munetoshi Maruyama just published a photography book on “The Ant Guests”. The photos are stunning! The book is organized by geographical region, and text is in both Japanese and English. Check it out (and order it) here:

The thing about companies they are trying to build a industry on customers who are just like this. They will burn out fast and get board as there is nothing to learn and improve and grow on. Just one of the many reasons why it’s a dead end of an industry.

New study confirms that short wavelength light (UV & blue) attracts the most nocturnal insects & that intensity increases attraction for all colours. Longer wavelength & lower intensity outdoor lights should reduce biodiversity impacts resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... #teammoth 🌍

Speaking of #inverts, we found this red and black mason wasp (suggested common name) in our bathroom. Not sure how he got there. 🤷

P.S. Find out more about this beneficial insect here: edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/...

Cave life's not all bad for olms. They live *exceptionally* long lives for an amphibian (100 yrs!), possibly arising from the fact that they have no natural predators & have been known not to move for up to 7 years.

Just tiny pink dragons guarding their tiny water-filled caves for a century. 🐉💧
One blind, aquatic salamander may have sat mostly still for seven years
Olms may live for about century and appear to spend their time moving sparingly.

The remarkable wings of a 0.3mm long Alaptus minimus wasp of the Mymaridae. If you look closely toward the left end of the pair you can see the hamuli (hooks) that link the hindwing to the forewing.

Grabbed a few pictures of a Benoitolus sp. "Khao Sok" millipede. Also took one half illuminated with a UV light to show how this species will fluoresce.
