Theme of the day is any bird on a post/fence, with the alt of red. Here’s a grey heron on a post he stole from a gull. And he’s got a bit of red in his beak :))

He wasn’t the only one on a post that day!

A photograph of a grey heron on a post in the water. He’s quite a happy bird - he just scared off a gull so he could have this perch. He’s got grey wings with some bling longer feathers on top. There are also some black accents. His chest is whitish-grey and his head is white, with black bands across his eyes. His beak is a bright orange with a hint of red where it meets his head. His legs are long and he’s got some knobbly knees. He is standing on a wooden post, the first of a line of posts across the water. There are some ripples in the water and it is reflecting the clouds above. A photo of the same heron on a post but this time, zoomed out so that you can see a line of posts stretching across the water. Each post is taken up by gulls and two grey herons. A very popular spot!

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay is a bird on a post -- #Posted. I think this is an immature Western Gull, the most common #gull here in #California. Adults are mostly white with a dark back.

I’m calling this for #Posted. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a reddish egret on a fence. #BirdoftheDay
