If we involve a bit of material history we can clear this one right up. Well, nothing is just for one reason, but Iommi pitched down because he lost some fingertips in an industrial accident. That sound was very influential on what followed.

Also, a down-pitched guitar sounds nothing like a bass.
Hot take: I think the trend of modern metal guitar to down-pitch everything as much as possible is guitarists wanting to be bassists but being hung up about just using the right instrument for the sound they want

Just get a bass, my dude. Learn to play the instrument that already makes those sounds

The perfect example of analytic philosophy: let's make up a hypothetical that to us (of a certain class/race/gender) seems like an intractable dilemma but for anyone with actual knowledge of the material situation is actually an entirely different issue

they're right. it's completely unacceptable to compare ICE to the gestapo. They're more like the einsatzgruppen.

hear me out - new tax for super wealthy to prevent hoarding. what you've gained in wealth over the last tax year above a certain threshold, you have to spend in the next or you're taxed something obscene like 95% - spend your money or we spend it for you.

at the end of all this
artists, writers, poets and musicians
will command a rate far in excess
of any AI bro

and when i'm near retirement
I will crawl up a tall tower
to collect my yearly wage,
look out over my kingdom
and raise a toast to my bounty:
two jelly beans and a quarter cup of lemonade

30-something-year old composers whose music has something to do evil sounds, atmospheres and spaces, embodiment and decay: I can't help but wonder if we might have all been profoundly shaped by roughly the same experience encountering Burial, et. al. in about 2010. Am I right?

tell us your compositional journey to date.
don't make a list of collaborators, be super specific and tell us all what you did.
also mention other things you do apart from composing.
BUT can you cram all this in, I dunno, like 1,000 characters?

Two concerts in Berlin featuring my large-scale bassoon and electronics piece in a matter of weeks! 15th and 17th March, performed by my obnoxiously talented collaborator, Olivia Palmer-Baker!

a little research piece on technology in music composition pedagogy, drawing from my own experience but also from those who have been at the coalface an awful lot longer:

very entertaining but absolutely horrifying watching centrist melts trying to square the nazi salute thing with continuing to be on x

surely there is a German word out there for this very specific emotion.

We’ve written to the Oxford Literary Festival to question why Helen Joyce is listed under their LGBTQ+ category. Her widely criticised views on trans inclusion make this association both insulting and tone-deaf to the LGBTQ+ community. We’ve asked for this to be corrected.

Wonderful to have secured this Goethe-Institut funding to work on a new surround-sound live electronics bassoon project with Olivia Palmer-Baker.

I'm shit at posting or I'd do it myself, but we need more wholesome new music content. one of the reasons I left twitter is got I got fed up of getting pissed off at what some new york school ego makes of Brian Ferneyhough passages.

1. Big new piece in collaboration with a bassoonist (soon to be announced)

2. Monograph reappraising 'new complexity' approaches (such as they are) as fundamentally queer
Bluesky academics, let's get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren't working on but keep thinking about.

Mine:
1. The Eastern Roman and Greek context of the Qur'an
2. Aryan race theory as the foundation of modern Orientalism

the important question isn’t “did Harris lose because the left is too woke?” it’s “why isn’t Donald Trump in federal prison?” We’re being subjected to lectures about politics by the people who held all of the power and let this dipshit slip through their grasp.
