I thought the finale was a good episode in a very uneven season overall, even if it featured some of the same issues as the rest such as pacing and unequal time for the couples. And (giant sigh) they did successfully pull me in for S2 with that ending (unsurprising thb, I’m a soft target).

We've gotten to a better place with Brian + Julia + Davina (though did it really need to take that long to get here?) but I continue to feel, frustratingly, that almost every character is being acted on and thwarted by the narrative far more than they're able to make and actuate any choices

Actually, sorry, I'm incapable of shutting up: I appreciated that Brian and Ellen finally got some time to talk (and that was the best non JC sex scene in the shows!) but her seeing lack of guile and pretense as his traits when he's constantly putting up a different front for different people 💀
