I mean probably a bad example to compare it to, given how campy it is, but I enjoyed the fuck out of Phantom of the Paradise and I would not at all call that a film that has a rosy view of anybody, my favorite letterboxd review on it saying "De Palma doesn't care much for people who go to concerts"

oh I 1000% get the point that you are making here, and I get your POV. I have experienced works in which "hatred for humanity" means laziness, but sometimes it wets my vengeance-teeth when something goes "people can be so fucking Wrong" it really depends on execution

so 1. Bring Her Back is very much on my list and 2. Hereditary, which I still have not seen, is also on my list and for some reason you clearly meant "Hereditary if it didn't hate humanity" as a dig on it but it kinda makes me MORE excited to watch it, so maybe I have things wrong with me
