I only watched the halftime show now and, holy shit, the people who are scared of this are pathetic. I thought we would be the first generation to break the cycle or “Kids these days and their devil music!” but apparently it’s hard-wired into these numbskulls. The PMRC is back from the dead.
As a boring white man in my 40s, I find it horrifying that I’m in the middle of the demographic that thinks a song being in Spanish during the Super Bowl halftime show signifies the end of civilization. These morons will get suckered into anything. It’s like we didn’t grow up in the same world.

RIP Captain Ahab, you would’ve loved Balatro
I heard Ahab mutter, ‘Here some one thrusts these cards into these old hands of mine; swears that I must play them, and no others.’

A traveler from an antique land--great guy--said to me with tears in his eyes "Sir, two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert." And I said wow, that's really something. But we'll be building a big beautiful statue to my hubris and it will stand for eternity

Groundhog Day (the actual day, not the movie) is extremely Boomer-coded, I don’t think I need to explain myself here

Great tyranny, lay thou thy basis sure,

I’ve “finished” two games so far this year but feel guilty about leaving them behind; they’re so deep and I’ve still got so much to do in both, but I feel like I’ve gotta move forward so I can get some other games crossed off my list. I’m not breaking any news by saying these two are both excellent

I’ve read two books in the first ten days of 2026, which is not a pace I’ll be able to keep, but these Oliver Harris novels have a blistering pace. One more left in this trilogy before moving onto something new!

The first book I finished this year—“A Shadow Intelligence” by Oliver Harris—is about a conspiracy between the world’s most powerful nations and multinational energy conglomerates to effect regime change in order to gain access to the largest oil reserves in the world. Cool!

2025 in Books: This year I read 32 books, which isn’t close to my most in a year but is great for a busy time. It’s true that I’ve been sorted into the “Dads who read espionage fiction” club, so apologies to the WW2 buffs and people who watch Yellowstone. (Lists are chronological, not ranked)
