The low price of the camera in the early 20th Century (around £25 today) made photography more accessible than ever. The 120 film format was introduced for use with the Kodak Brownie, and allows up to 8 shots per roll

I bought this camera on a whim. At the time, I didn't know if film was available or if it was even working. Spoiler - it worked! I took the next photos this year, 2025, on a Kodak Brownie No.2 manufactured between 1919 and 1924

Some might brand flies gross and unworthy. For me, this photo captures a moment taken to look a bit closer, understand a bit better, and appreciate the small things often overlooked.

A grey heron stands by a pond with it's long neck tucked in forming a snug S-shape. A small white down feather is stuck to the tip of a pointed orange-yellow bill during a pause in preening. The bill colour matches the eye. Plumage varies in shape and texure across the bird: a black band above the eye breaks up the soft white head plumage and leads to long black crest feathers which hang in the air behind the head. Long, white feathers hang down from the heron's neck and the grey wings appear to be draped with a decorative feather cape of the same colour. A building reflects in the blurred water behind the heron.
