Or how about this headline — “American citizen arrested without cause after exercising his Constitutional rights.” Very important that government propaganda not become the default framing.

Targeting and arresting journalists is a textbook authoritarian move.

Period.

Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom to dissent are essential to our democracy.

Our community of Jews and allies rejects any attempt to suppress them. Because we know from our history where it leads.

the arrest of journalists in minneapolis, including don lemon, is more evidence that the only move the administration knows how to make is to use force, and does not know how to respond when that force is met with defiance and indifference.

Many are used to talking about the toll of anti-Black racism from the lens of killings by police.

Science keeps telling us that legal and social systems of oppression also dispatch silent killers that, without interventions, literally steal Black lives before their time.
New evidence shows how discrimination shortens lives in Black communities
Researchers linked higher inflammation levels to decades of stress, including discrimination and economic hardship.

Indiana lawmakers — just like the White House and Republicans in Congress — bet that anti-trans legislation can distract from the affordability, health care, jobs, education, and housing they fail to provide (on behalf of the billionaires who fund them).

They're wrong.
Senate passes 'most extreme anti-LGBTQ+ bill' in more than a decade. What it does
Transgender people would be barred from using a restroom that matches their gender identity under the bill.

“An immediate de-escalation on all sides”???

Imagine telling Jews to de-escalate during the Holocaust, or African Americans to de-escalate during Jim Crow.

Every Jewish institution must look at itself and ask what they are doing to end fascism.
There were once plenty of regime loyalists who described the Nazi Gestapo’s targeting of Jews, Roma, dissidents, queer folks & more as so many ‘fatal encounters with law enforcement’. That’s how the head of the ADL just described the ICE murder of Renée Good & Alex Pretti

A personnel change is not justice.

Minnesota’s demands call for real accountability and safety — not appeasement:

1️⃣ ICE out of Minnesota.

2️⃣ Accountability when officers kill.

3️⃣ No new ICE funding.

4️⃣ 4th Amendment businesses now. #ICEOut

"Congress must refuse to provide one dollar to ICE or CBP through the appropriations process and immediately take action to revoke the tens of billions already given through last summer’s reconciliation bill."

We are proud to be part of this letter.
Today, in a massive show of support, 1,025 organizations, including immigrant justice, human rights, civil rights, faith, and labor organizations, sent a letter to members of Congress to express horror, outrage & deep grief about the recent shooting deaths by federal agents in Minneapolis.
