Related: One project of the Searchlight wing of the party is getting back to 2012 Obama positioning on immigration. Secure the border, pass a comprehensive bill. They feel (I don't disagree) that Boehner killing the House version of reform kept the issue for Trump while radicalizing imm groups.
IDK why right-wingers keep bringing up Obama's record deportations, it just shows that if you wanted to have a conservative immigration policy without partisan militias occupying cities and gunning people down in the streets you could do it and a lot of americans would be fine with it

btw I think this stinks. Most discourses rn are started by people reacting to screenshots of headlines or undated videos of people's comments being clipped. It would be better if they were reacting to more op-eds they disagree w! But NYT has dominated the Take Zone.
Sidebar: The changes at WaPo have made the NYT/WP opinion clout level even more lopsided. NYT Opinion can get a discourse cookin' every few days. WP doesn't; biggest impact I've seen recently was Brandon Johnson being asked to respond to their Chicago op-eds.
... what?

A suspect in what federal authorities consider the largest jewelry heist in U.S. history might avoid a trial because he was deported to Ecuador, bringing further disarray to the victims affected by the multimillion dollar robbery, their lawyer says.
Jewelry heist suspect’s deportation left victims ‘in disbelief,’ lawyer says
The deportation has thrown the heist’s victims into further upheaval after enduring three years of financial hardship, the jewelry companies’ lawyer said.

I sat down for 2-plus hours Tuesday with Steny Hoyer as he talked about a career that began in Annapolis in 1967 and will end later this year.
He’s not running again. And he’s content with a storied career even if he didn’t get the speaker’s gavel.

A national ticket with Tim Walz on it could never lose!
If Dems talked like this regularly, we wouldn't have to focus on "how to win close elections in difficult environments." We would have a lot fewer close elections, and a lot fewer difficult environments.
Walz is out of Fs: "Not a single Republican supported this, so every Minnesotan from here on, whoever uses this program, there is no bit of thanks that would go to the R legislators who did all they could to stop this ... our schools have money to pay their teachers? I'll take credit for that too."
