The clip is longer than the quote - it's really worth listening to the whole video...
"My mentor always tells me, 'Kim, dogs don’t bark at parked cars." They’re coming after critical race theory, 1619, intersectionality because these ideas mobilized people. They gave them the language to actually articulate what they were seeing with their own eyes," says Kimberlé Crenshaw.

Protect your innate sense of interconnectedness, though it will be violated by the current order many times per day. What is powerful is not always true.

All this suffering is so painful and all this harm is so dangerous and so prone to propagate because we are so utterly interconnected to each other and the living Earth. That same feature (it's not a bug) could be the source of our joy and healing.

Our new induction stove is finally operational (good bye unvented gas stove that game with the house). So of course the question is what kind of cookies should I make to celebrate (I mean test) the new oven?

I'm of 2 minds about climate negotiations these days.
There's part that invested a decade in COPs as a path to change. That part remembers the feeling of being with thousands of people coming together to try to take care a collective life support system.
Of course there is lying and not facing facts and harming the innocent. It's an addiction archetype when the suppliers have captured the problem solving mechanisms that could support recovery.

Reducing emissions without phasing out fossil fuels is like being full after a big restaurant meal and telling the waiter to keep delivering new dishes to the table with a promise that your kids and your neighbor who is not even at the table will pay the bill.

Quite a metaphor. 👀

"The blaze [sent] panicked delegates racing to evacuate...rain from a torrential downpour leaked into the meeting spaces...There were complaints about food shortages, & the air-conditioning struggled to keep up with the high heat..."
Fire Breaks Out at COP30 Climate Talks in Brazil
Delegates were evacuated from the conference venue, where thousands from nearly 200 countries had gathered.

Do you ever wonder we'd be now if the voices advocating a shift from GDP to wellbeing indicators had prevailed in 1990 when they first started talking about it? www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Beyond growth — why we need to agree on an alternative to GDP now
The world needs to move towards an approach to measure well-being rather than economic growth. Here’s how that can happen.

When a dominator attacks someone in front of others the message is for the others as well as the direct victim. It is a way to identify the brave ones for further attack and a way to make the quiet ones ashamed and complicit.

Bellingcat’s contact email has always been a magnet for people with fairly unusual views; paranoid delusions, sprawling conspiracies, the works. But recently, the pattern has shifted, we’re seeing more and more emails clearly written with ChatGPT.

In San Francisco, mid 70's, we had water restrictions. Before low-flow toilets, we put bricks in the tanks. We cut back water use so well, they asked us to start using it more. During a drought in Davis, our community garden watered on alternate days. Both of these efforts were easy& felt good.

A thing I think about: perhaps a gift (a painful one but still a gift) the collective shadow being so prominent right now gives us each is the opportunity to excavate some of it in ourselves and to stand together in the light, come what may.

In starkness, clarity.

The power-over crowd want you to think transparent collective action is impossible, because they fear it, but when you return a book to the library, shovel your section of the sidewalk, loan money to launch a small business you are doing it! Many times each day.

When I lived on the Sunshine Coast of BC, we had summertime water restrictions. It didn't take long for people to change their ways, e.g., water lawns on prescribed days.

Transparent collective action is the path to a thriving future. Where is it happening in your life (even if a smaller scale)?
"The impact was dramatic. Water use fell by more than 55% in under two years, from 1.2 billion liters per day to about 500 million. When rains finally returned in 2018, the reservoirs refilled. But the deeper lesson endured: transparent, collective action can shift behavior on a massive scale"
Can Tehran use the Cape Town model to escape a water crisis 'Day Zero'?
As Iran’s capital Tehran endures its worst water crisis in living memory, few recent global cases offer clearer lessons than Cape Town in South Africa in 2018.
