Summary of what happened at Temu ACIP this morning:

As expected, they overturned the 30+ year recommendation for the birth dose of HepB vaccine, which has reduced the incidence of pediatric HepB by 99%.

They provided no credible evidence to support this decision.

Absolutely fucking stupid.
Well, shit. This will cause so many unnecessary deaths.
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

God this is so true. They avoid eye contact if you’re looking at the one EV in the lot. They either can’t answer your questions or make up nonsense while hoping you’ll go away. One dealer told me, when pressed, they’d be getting 2 new EVs in the next few months. Not 2 models, 2 individual cars.

The orchestrated Uni of Oklahoma outrage immediately reminded me of a similar case we witnessed at Texas A&M in September, where the targeted professor was fired. So I looked up the most recent updates on that, and about a week ago, a faculty appeals panel found that the university was at fault.
Faculty panel says Texas A&M wrongly fired professor
Texas A&M did not have good cause to fire a professor after a video of a gender lesson created a political storm, and the school failed to follow due process, a faculty appeal committee found.

My son convinced me to play an obscure video game that starts out simple but ends up having lots of weird lore

I got to my first ending and have more questions than answers. But I CANNOT look anything up because he says even a single google will bring up tons of spoilers. I won’t even say the name.

The CDC has turned off its vaccine search tool.

The vaccines.gov site now gives an error when you enter a valid zip code.

They also removed text saying “Vaccines can help you stay healthy” and added a banner saying the site is being updated.

“Eke” or “eek” was a Middle English word for “also”. So if you have a name that you are also known as, it’s an eke-name

The ancient epic of Jason and the Argonauts has Hercules on the boat at the start, but they leave him behind by accident, for basically no reason.

After their first big battle someone says “kind of a good thing Herc isn’t with us, he would have made all the fights too easy.” That’s the reason.

Kiddo helped me price and pack up the hats for the church fair. I think that’s 28 hats I’ve knitted for donation this year - 15 here and 13 or so for KnitHope.

In Ovid’s version Midas never gets as far as touching any family members. He makes it like an hour because the moment he sits down and realizes he can’t eat, he’s crying to the gods to end it
One of the core stories of western civilization is about a king that loved gold so much it killed his child and then, because he was a sycophant, was cursed to live out his days with the ears of an ass.

I 100% believe that the name "Trump" will ring through the ages as some kind of warning tale.
"It was tough to beat Apple, but the Swiss did it." said one administration official.

How the Swiss convinced Trump to drop tariffs with gifts of a Rolex desk clock and a 1 kg gold bar.

This is what I try to always tell people: food banks can do way more with your money than you can, due to bulk buying deals. And they can do way, way more with your money than with the canned goods you didn’t want to eat
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.
