Opossums usually don't bite since if they truly feel threatened they will play dead and they understand that biting is more likely to lead to them getting hurt

Torpor is different from hibernation. It's a state opossums & other wildlife enter when it's very cold in order to preserve energy. Their breathing slows and so does their metabolism. They eat very little or not at all. Hibernation lasts for a prolonged period whereas torpor lasts hours or days.
