Seeing recent threads from @gravelinfluencer.bsky.social and @bikabout.com about e-bikes (or e-dirt bikes as the case may be), I thought I would throw in my thoughts as a parent of a now-teenager and pre-teen that just moved to a safe place to ride a bike from a not-safe place.

I’m glad to live in a great part of Minneapolis where kids traveling alone is okay. Didn’t start for us regularly until 2nd and 5th but now a year later they are pretty competent on their own.

For our final Ruby Bridges walk to school day at Parkdale, we gathered under a looming Mount Hood for hot chocolate and walked through some spectacular golden light.

And look at those awesome @cleverhood.bsky.social jackets for our rain library thanks to @saferoutespartners.bsky.social!

7 years ago, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and promptly handed her to her mom.

Happy Birthday to my star, Penelope. She gifted me my greatest life experience including a 2nd opportunity to bike while pregnant!

Before the walk: "I don't know you"
End of walk: holding hands

Walking and Bike Buses build community FAST!

This goes out to all our fellow leaders out there and the relationships they have with their students. You are making memories.

5am came quickly this morning, but just like magic, the kids and our panoramic beauty of the Columbia Gorge wakes me up really quickly.

Happy Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day.

Every year, my city has the landscaping swapped in our planter protected bike lane to reflect the current season.

We just switched from autumn mums to a festive holiday theme, and it adds so much enjoyment to my commute.

Infrastructure can be beautiful at the human scale.

4 people radicalized by parenting.

Last night's Life After Cars book talk at Powell's was another evening of church. Not surprising, "Cars Ruin Childhood" is my favorite chapter bc of the effectiveness of kids' voices and subversive joy.

Oh, how our families need peace and community right now and #RubyBridges is the perfect event for it.

A beautiful and tragic episode about the selfishness brought on by the auto industry.

NEW EPISODE: "The Creation of America's Car Culture." Producer Ilana Strauss talks to @norton.bsky.social about the two men who, in the 1920s, teamed up to sell more cars and shape the way cities handle traffic. Their legacy can be felt across the country today. podcasts.apple.com/lu/podcast/t...

I struck a chord with this @bikeportland.org advocating for Oregon's youth. This would be a game changer for moms like me who unfairly bear the burden of kid shuttling and for t(w)eens who need to learn resiliency and independence the fun way.

Everyone cares about transportation. This makes studying it really fun, but also means everyone (including experts) is in danger of confusing their opinions for facts. You would not believe how many comments in an academic talk about walking and cycling have to do with regulating e-bikes.
