KNIFE, Alex Gibney’s documentary about the 2022 stabbing that almost killed Salman Rushdie, is powerful stuff. It includes startling footage of the attack itself. www.vulture.com/article/knif...
Alex Gibney Tells the Story of the Attack on Salman Rushdie
A new documentary about the attack on Salman Rushdie is informative, moving, and, yes, occasionally infuriating.

Nobody seems to have thought ‘The Moment’ through, writes Vulture critic Bilge Ebiri. The Charli XCX film is neither funny enough to be a mockumentary nor real enough to be a concert doc. The end result feels like pure brand management.

Most of my critic friends appear to have hated Cathy Yan's THE GALLERIST, but this strange, snappy art-world comedy starring Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega won me over. www.vulture.com/article/the-...
The Gallerist Is Not For All Tastes
But what can I say? I found myself fully invested in its extreme performances and absurdist tone.

The new Charli XCX film THE MOMENT sort of wants to be a satire and sort of wants to be a behind-the-scenes look at a superstar. It winds up being neither. It's more brand management than movie. www.vulture.com/article/the-...

a formalist golf movie from the Philippines?

how messed up is it gonna be? sounds like at least an 8.

(I don't golf, no particular reason, just never picked it up, but my brother does, and he has a Hunter S. Thompson-like story about golfing in Mindanao.)

Filipiñana is the kind of movie that asks for attention and patience — not because it is slow but because it’s built entirely out of details.

SIGH: 8 out of 10 screenplay noms went to the directors of those films.

This trend sucks. Period.

Writing FOR a director is a very different skillset than writing AS the director. Night & day.

I will continue to argue these are more interesting categories than the fakakta definition of "adapted."

An astonishing factoid from @vermontgmg.bsky.social, looking at data over the last decade: "the workforce of CBP officers and Border Patrol agents commit crimes at an equal or even greater rate PER CAPITA than the population of undocumented immigrants do in the United States."
If you are appalled at the tactics of ICE and CBP, you should be! They in fact are *NOT* trained for the work they're doing in America's interior right now—and they're scared of interacting with US citizens. That's a recipe for the exact disaster we see: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/ice-101-ho...

ICE and CBP are fatally flawed products of the post-9/11 War on Terror — now Trump has weaponized those very flaws to occupy America.
