Soon the IMO will meet to vote on their new Net Zero Framework.

Biofuels cannot be included: they only drive deforestation and land theft.

Join us at 9am on 20th October outside IMO headquarters to call for real climate solutions, including demand reduction.

The global shipping industry could create massive demand for crop biofuels and this is... not a good thing.

Prediction from @transportenvironment.org earlier this year that shipping climate targets which allow biofuels like palm oil could see nearly a third of global shipping running on biofuels by 2030 - fuelling deforestation.
biofuelwatch.bsky.social
Demand for biofuels has already massive grown - so far mostly for road transport in Europe, the USA and elsewhere. There's nothing remotely sustainable about the global biofuel market. It's long been linked to deforestation, land-grabbing, high carbon emissions.

The Chancellor says she 'fixed' a problem caused by “some snails or something”.

Comments like this pit nature against growth – it’s the wrong target.

Here, the system has worked: protecting one of UK’s rarest species while allowing 20,000 homes to proceed.

Oh dear, Rachel - what have you said now?

There is a reason why species are protected. To risk the extinction of a species for a few houses is #uncivilised, #ignorant, #AntiScience and shows no respect for life-forms considered more lowly than herself. Who's next?

NEW: 156 organisations call for EU-wide ban on new waste incineration.

Why?
🔥 EU already has 60M tonne overcapacity crisis.
🌍 Higher carbon emissions than many energy sources.
♻️ Blocks circular economy progress.
☠️ Toxic chemicals found in nearby communities.

Awful. It's also about access to environmental information, btw., such as getting information about levels of local pollution. Right now, with the UK being in the convention, challenges can only be brought if there's a credible argument of legal flaws in a decision. Now, even that right is at risk.
