THREAD/Today marks the 85th anniversary of one of the more notorious incidents from the London Blitz, which sadly was an exception to the usual rule that Underground stations were safe and secure places to sit (or sleep) through an air raid. on 11 January 1941, the alert had recently sounded and...

There is zero reason why any decent government, organisation or individual should retain even a dormant presence on Twitter. The time for excuses for remaining has long passed.
I call on my party and my government to remove themselves entirely from X and communicate with the public where they actually participate online and can be protected from such illegality.

And that, England cricketers, is how you bat in a test match. Grind the opposition into the dust.

As the anniversary of a famous photo is coming up: A British and a German newspaper using the same image of the London Blitz but with opposite intentions.

Another excellent thread from Ian which gives us a fireman’s view of the Blitz. ⬇️
It's the middle of the night, and a young fireman confronts a fire the like of which he's never seen before.

It is the night of 7 September 1940, and 24-year-old Frank Hurd is fighting fires on the first night of the London #Blitz.

An illustrated thread... 🧵 1/19

THREAD/As mentioned earlier, today marks the 85th anniversary of the "Second Great Fire of London", an incendiary raid that started fires to spread over an area larger than the original Great Fire of 1666. It was raid that led to a change in the wartime legislation that enforced businesses...

Today marks the 85th anniversary of the Luftwaffe's fire raid on the City of London, which became known as the "Second Great Fire of London". Here we see a group of London firefighters in Cheapside on the morning of 30 December after no doubt an exhausting night at work. This raid also gave rise to

Saw a Mummers play in the pub tonight, in which Donald Trump met his end by being run through with a sword (although he did seem to be revived later in the performance, unfortunately!)

Book the open top bus, plan the parade, knighthoods all round!

I actually haven’t enjoyed this test match at all - it’s almost been like one of those joke, beer matches that they used to play when a club game finished early, reversing the batting order and letting everyone have a bowl.

I'll be less active on socials over Christmas, so in case I don't get the chance again, I'd like to wish all of my friends and followers on here the Season's Greetings and sincerely hope, like these folks in 1940, that better times are coming sometime soon.
