In the UK, the 5th of November is remembered for a failed attempt to blow up Parliament.

In the US, it’s when we started to blow up an oligarchy.

A little of my faith in humankind has been restored. Still a ways to go, but today was a very good start.

When traveling, I can carry a couple dozen novels on my tablet, or 1-2 paperbacks. Easy choice. With all due respect to Samuel T. Cogley, I do like my ebooks.
EBooks are obviously superior to paper books in most circumstances.
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

“I have never seen [Jaws: The Revenge], but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house it built, and it is terrific.” — Michael Caine, actual quote
“Actually, I did JAWS THE REVENGE to be an environmental ambassador, to help raise awareness of our fragile ocean ecosystems.” — Michael Caine, at no time in his career

If you know the tune, it might be time for a colonoscopy…

Pudding, flan
And crème brûlée

The Enabling Act of 1933 gave the German Chancellor unrestricted (plenary) power, enabling him to enact laws without consent of the parliament. This transformed Germany into a fascist dictatorship with Hitler as Fuhrer.

Stephen Miller just claimed Trump has “plenary power.”

It can happen here.

My favorite trilogy:
The Fellowship of the Bollocks
The Two Bollocks
The Return of the Bollocks
Star Trek: The Bollocks of Khan
Some Sunday evening fun.

I’ll go first;

Ferris Bueller’s Bollocks Off.

Someday there will be chapters in history books about this time. My fear is that they will read like 1932-1945 Germany in the history books I read in school. My hope is they will be shorter, with a decisive rejection of authoritarianism, oligarchy and tyranny.

The US government has shut down. I’d just like to point out this is a great opportunity to restart in Safe Mode, clean out the malware, and apply patches to protect against reinfection…

At this point, I think my biggest clue will be sleeping better at night. If they’re not working, there are fewer shenanigans and less frustration.
If Congress shuts down and stops working, how will we be able to tell?

Tylenol causes autism, huh? Fascinating.

You know what cures it?

RELEASING THE EPSTEIN FILES!

(And yes, I fully believe my assertion is as grounded in science as theirs.)

I would love it if Jimmy Kimmel’s first monologue back was just him saying “Release the Epstein Files“ for seven minutes.

As you cancel streaming services, here is a casual reminder that only 16% of Americans read for pleasure anymore, and your local library has hundreds or thousands of books you haven't read.

They would love to see you stop by and renew your library card.
