Delighted to be doing this, alongside the ace @bobbeagrie.bsky.social and Nev Clay. I'm doing a spoken word piece called 'Dreams Of Freeborough Hill' that references King Arthur, Comet Hale Bopp, Blaises nightclub, the goddess Freya and the 1997 Boro squad.

Less than four weeks to go till me and @bobfischer.bsky.social ride into Leeds @oldwoollen.bsky.social for our Folk Horror show! We can't wait to come back to one of our favourite venues - we won't be burning a Wicker Man though, it's a health and safety nightmare!

Been thinking about my love of fantasy, and 1984 feels like a pivotal year: Fighting Fantasy, Robin of Sherwood, and (genuinely) an advert for Shell Grip where Tim Healy is chased through the woods by Herne the Hunter. I spent every ad break hoping to see it.

'Wulfrun' by The Balloonist. An homage to the 1960s, open air shopping parade in Wolverhampton, UK.

Covered over in the late 90s, the original was testament to the post-war futurism that drove architecture for a short while...

Very niche request: my 1984 diary records that I watched "The Two Ronnies with Dr Who in" at 8.10pm on 21st May 1984. But BBC Genome lists an episode of Panorama in that slot. Anyone know why Panorama was pulled, and which episode of The Two Ronnies might have replaced it? @davidbrunt.bsky.social?

It was supposedly George's Gretsch Country Gentleman guitar that got smashed, but this article says otherwise:

"The guitar and its case were smashed to bits. We never even bothered to pick it up." Was George Harrison's 1963 Country Gentleman really destroyed in a Beatles road mishap? The evidence says no

Discovered via the Mal Evans book... in 1965, when the Beatles were undoubtedly the biggest band in the world, they were still touring the UK crammed into an Austin Princess driven by Alf Bicknell. George's guitar fell off the roof rack near Berwick-upon-Tweed and got crushed by a lorry.

Weirdy Whitby on Friday 13th February, anyone? This has been a lovely regular evening for the last year or so, and it's a delight to be back. 'The Black Heart Of Whorlton Castle' is a terrifying tale that my teacher Mr Hirst relayed to us on a school trip in 1984. I have pictures. And a song...

I recommend checking out Sister Irene O'Connor's album, by the way. Recorded DIY-style in 1973 and produced by fellow Australian nun Sister Marimil Lobregat, it's been just been reissued for the first time in decades. Sounds weirdly like Yoko Ono in places.
