Hey architects and builders:
HALF of the U.S. 2.4% emissions *increase* in 2025 was due to an expansion of the use of fossil fuels for space heating. Just say no to gas systems in your projects. The future of the planet is literally in your hands.

Proud to announce in Davos at the World Economic Forum that California has surpassed 2.5M ZEV sales.

While Washington now cedes the global clean vehicle market to China, California is ensuring American workers and manufacturers can excel in the industries that will define this century.

IMHO, you would enjoy listening to this pod about a guy who is trying to decentralize the electricity grid the same way telecom & internet infrastructure were decentralized.
Making the electricity grid work like the internet
Jonas Birgersson joins me to explain how "packet-switching" for electrons can lead to energy abundance and grid resilience.

Trump administration sues two California cities over natural gas bans
The Justice Department said natural gas bans in Petaluma and Morgan Hill drive up costs and conflict with federal policy. Both cities said they have not enforced their bans in several years.

I wonder if Apple would block the ICE Watch app from the App Store if it was an official app published by the State of Minnesota and it only covered Minnesota. Or Oregon.

The developer of the ICEBlock app said the software has been removed from Apple's App Store due to "objectionable content."

Unhook ourselves from oil and gas and we unhook ourselves from dependency on dictators, autocrats and expansionist regimes all over the planet.

I'm curious how it's going with SolarApp+, in terms of time and cost. The App improves the process, but I think we can do better.

It's also a problem with electrification of appliances, so I'm proposing some reforms of the permit process for heat pumps as well.

Listening to Saul on Volts comparing AUS vs US rooftop solar was painfully familiar. In AUS he got 5 quotes in 2 days + permit/interconnect in ~24h; here we’re DIY’ing our roof (with help from Bluesky friends like @commercialsolarguy.com) and permit review loop is the biggest bottleneck
Today on Volts: you've probably heard that Australia has cheap rooftop solar power. You've probably also heard some rumors & myths about it. (Is it destabilizing the grid?) I called my favorite Australian energy expert to clear it all up. This is a fun one!

So now we have to worry about tornados in the Bay Area. Is there something about our topography that means we get more tornadoes due to climate change? I wonder how bad it will get. Basements are rare here, and tornado shelters are nonexistent.

45. Specifically, we've decoupled economic growth from fossil energy consumption. Coal demand has collapsed. Oil use is flat. Natural gas use is growing but < GDP, even as standards of living have gone up. That's happened because of higher efficiency and decarbonization.
