Canada admitted it was committing genocide on Indigenous children over 100 years ago.

Only ghouls demand bodies after the perpetrator has admitted guilt.
Say it with me: They weren't "Residential Schools".

They were FORCED LABOUR DEATH CAMPS that incarcerated Indigenous children as inmates.

#Genocide admitted by the chief Indian Agent of #Canada in 1914.

Read it and weep for the children, our cherished relatives.

Last day to add your voice to the most opposed city budget in Vancouver history!

ABC's slash-and-burn budget harms the whole city, including:

-the Equity Office
-Climate and Sustainability Department
-Britannia Community Centre
-Vancouver Public Library
-Parks Board.

All to help the filthy rich.
It's our last chance to stop Ken Sim's plan to slash city services to give a hand-out to the super-rich.

Hoooly This is a blow- but he did it the right way. Thomas King admits he is not #Indigenous. I can tell you several journos were investigating- the Cherokee said there were no recods- but in the end King investigated and outed himself.

King's books, many of which i have read and enjoyed, are conspicuously absent from Bad Indians Book Club.

In case you were wondering if this was something a lot of us already knew.

I saw Thomas King finally admitted he’s not Native. We were going to do a story on him for the old podcast - he was cited in a court case, his books used in schools - so it mattered. But also it would just be so ugly. This is the best way for him to do it.

For the record, here are my US and Canadian Status cards, and a federal court filing where the chief is suing me and confirms I’m a band member (she hates) numerous times. If you’re actually Native it isn’t that hard. You don’t need introspection, you just need an organized wallet.

I had the honor of briefly meeting Mother Fletcher at the Centennial of the Tulsa Massacre. She devoted her life to raising awareness. Her memoir was titled “Don’t Let Them Bury My Story” and I will continue to take that literally. May she rest in peace.

Sadly, I cannot yet say the same about Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond in relation to academic, government, and legal literature.

The Law Society of BC referenced her in the mandatory Indigenous Intercultural Course, for example.
It's going to be a relief not to see Thomas King on the "Indigenous literature" shelf in the bookstores anymore though. Like, I understand that these places aren't going to act without some evidence, and that it's not their place to (unless they're Indigenous-run) but it's been a fucking thorn.

Folks have LOST THEIR JOBS trying to deal with ethnic frauds who went down swinging. The fallout from these cases is huge, no matter how those in the centre of it react, but people with this kind of clout can absolutely make it a million times worse if they decide to.

I don't quite think some people are understanding this. We've seen other pretendians literally launch lawsuits, causing so much intense damage in their denials. Him confessing before being outted (however inadequate that confession) doesn't erase harm but it is better than going nuclear.
The open secret that Thomas King is not Indigenous at all is finally verified, and honestly it's a relief. Having him just confess this instead of going out kicking and screaming like so many before him causes a LOT less harm to Indigenous communities.

It still sucks though.

So imagine someone enjoying success by pretending at, then building on the pretension of, something very painful to you.

Like pretending to have cancer to gain sympathy and money, when one of your parents died from cancer, or you have fought cancer.

Thomas King has done that.
November 25, 2025 at 12:33 AM
This shouldn't be difficult to understand. It's pretending and pretension.

Thomas King pretended at experiencing all the racism heaped on Indigenous people.

Then he pretentiously built his life, including career, friendships, and accolades, on that pretending at something very real for us.
I've been pretty darn sure for well over a decade that the rumours about King were true and I'm STILL super bummed out. AAAARGH!!!

Thomas King is an admitted pretendian.
Don't want to give him too much credit - he admits knowing folks were questioning him for years. He kept publishing though.

Thomas King was my first gateway to Indigenous literature in undergrad and learning that he was a pretendian a few years back was a genuine gut punch. Feeling that again today.

This happens in Canada, too.

The correct word for it is "genocide". A crime against humanity.
