I just learned there are only 4 tickets left to join the Sandia Starforgers retreat for SFFH writers, where I'll be teaching this spring in New Mexico. It's an intimate event with critique sessions, pitching, and chances to meet other writers. This is my 3rd year on faculty. starforgers.com

Got my chakras out of alignment and now I pull to the right at freeway speeds.

I think Avatar: The Last Airbender had about as perfect an ending as one could hope.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

There is no hell hot enough for that man, and yet, I hope he quicky finds his way to one.

Barsk is wonderful, clever, fun, and thought provoking. On audio, the reader has a deep, rich voice, and listening to this story is like snuggling into a thick blanket during winter.

Can't recommend this one enough.
Continuing the countdown and posting to celebrate that Monday, December 29th, 2025 marks the ten year anniversary of the release of my novel 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙠: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙡𝙚𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨' 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙮𝙖𝙧𝙙.

Here are some of the blurbs that kind and generous colleagues provided:

I've made quite an advancement today in cold fusion. While attempting to make omelets for Melissa and Chris, the eggs fused to the pan beyond all reason and edibility.

There are a whole lot of you here that I care about. I probably haven't done a very good job letting you know. Gonna try to do a better job of that going forward.

In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, filled with love and happiness.

I saw that Chris Evans was trending, clicked on it, and found a lot of cynical bitching. Good lord.

I think I need to stop coming here for a little while. It's just constant bad news and stupid takes.

"The #1 movie when you were 10 years old is how your 2026 is going to go."

I misread this and came up with The Exorcist first and thought, "Yeah, that tracks."

But it's actually Return of the Jedi, which is way more optimistic than I expect or deserve.
RIP to everyone born in 1987.

I honestly thought we'd reached a point where "zero tolerance rules" was considered a bad thing.
December 19, 2025 at 9:31 PM
I think a lot of people aren't reading the actual statement in this.

A key point:
Works that used LLMs at any point during the writing process must disclose this upon acceptance of the nomination, and the nature of the technology’s use will be made clear to voters on the final ballot.
Another Nebula Awards nomination cycle is in full swing, and the addition of poetry and comics, along with the presence of LLMs in industry, required careful consideration.

Read on, and vote well!

We trust our voters & look forward to what they choose to celebrate.

Please read this whole thread about empathy and work and AI. It's friggin' fantastic.
I hadn't given much thought to the actual philosophy behind the "empathy is bad, actually" movement, because the people espousing it are so transparently anti-human that I never thought of it as having more depth than wolves having the philosophy "Sheep are tasty".

But I realized it matters to AI.

I'm not going to link the vox article speculating that AI may be the key to generating new ideas.

Ideas are cheap. Ideas are common.

More important than the idea is the execution, regardless of field.

We have already seen that what we're calling AI is not good at execution.

Once again, I have lost Whamageddon. I knew as soon I heard Mariah Carey on Melissa's playlist that I was doomed.

Time of Wham: 12:17PM.

This year, I never stood a chance.

Do I need to resubscribe to Disney+ so that I can cancel it again? I don't see how to vote with my wallet on this one.

Here are my thoughts about KPop Demon Hunters, which I'm shamefully late to watch.

If you haven't seen it yet, correct this mistake. Don't wait like I did.

Here are a few words on my experience with Loscon 51. I enjoyed the convention itself, though there were a few things around the convention I could have done without.

The fact that a Lewky song is my #3 means that I was very serious about very not serious songs.
