Today on the blog: Democrats should run weirder campaigns, and people with clever ideas should go run a long shot state legislative campaign

We should be running creative, chaotic, and experimental state legislative campaigns

Hi, I'm a NY times bestseller and a multiple National Magazine Award-winning journalist.

I've had FT jobs or multiple gigs going ever since I moved to New York a decade ago.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Some enterprising resisters could get a lot of money off ICE if they have the know how
ICE has just under four years to spend $29.9 billion, they are going to outsource AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE to contractors because money is essentially not a problem anymore for the agency.
NEW: ICE has torn up its $180M cap on a proposed immigrant-tracking program and is now guaranteeing private surveillance firms at least $7.5M each, with potential payouts reaching $281M per vendor. The change signals a shift from “pilot” to full-scale outsourcing of street-level investigative work.

US culture is just really bad at preparing people for failure.

like, not failure that leads to success; not failure that teaches you a lesson; not noble losses leading to personal growth. just...failure. you lose. you don't succeed. you are diminished and it sucks. 1

Impeachment confession
NEW:

The DOJ tells Judge James Boasberg that Kristi Noem made the decision that flights that had departed should continue on to El Salvador, in contravention of the court’s orders.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

It was only a failure if you assume they ever had good intentions. If you assume they intended to destroy the federal government from within, they succeeded.

We’ll be dealing with the results of this monumental breach of the federal government for many years to come.
This point needs to be made and frequently.

I hope folks realize that between Trump, Kushner, Hegseth, Witkoff, Noem, RFK, Jr., Kash Patel, and Tulsi Gabbard, this country is almost entirely undefended.
Q: Have you heard this audio that Bloomberg has of Witkoff coaching the Russians on how to appeal to you?

TRUMP: That's a standard thing. He's gotta sell this to Ukraine, he's gonna sell Ukraine to Russia. That's what a dealmaker does. I haven't heard it but I heard it was standard negotiation.

Trump, Hegseth, and Republicans think their meltdown shows strength, but it’s the opposite. They’re showcasing decorated Democratic veterans like Mark Kelly who make them look small and petty. They should pay more attention to lowering grocery prices than ridiculous threats of court-martialing.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think it’s fine for officials to urge folks not to get vaccinated as long as they first sign a document agreeing to be eaten by wolves, and have their entire extended family eaten by wolves, if it’s found that even a single member of their family is vaccinated

This should send shivers down the spine of Republican and Democratic members of Congress alike.

It's a 'perspective' not capable of negotiating for true U.S. interests.
