If we are introducing ourselves: Pretty generic Boston-area lawyer. Try cases now and again. Bake and mope occasionally.

Sometimes write for Bullshit Hunting about obtaining and analyzing public records, to do stuff like identify shipwreck victims or fight wrongful convictions or whatever.

Has anyone been to Bogota lately? Would love recommendations.

And they don’t realize how much they would benefit from even 10, 20% effort. I still think about the guy I had a fling with in law school.

He had this stack of fluffy, white towels. Like a impossibly well-laundered towels.

And his sheets and pillowcases were fresh each time.

It’s something about not wanting to put thought or effort into that realm. Like…the very experience of caring would be so dissonant, for them, that they put off even attempting to think about whether there is something to do about it.

It’s fine, though. There are other things worth being.

George was just trying to get to work.

ICE pepper-sprayed him, dragged him from his car, locked him in a detention center, and placed him on suicide watch. He even missed his young daughter’s birthday in the process.

This man is a veteran and American citizen. Don't look away.

"They put me on suicide watch and they put me in the cell, I'm naked, in like a hospital dress and just a concrete bed with like a mattress, like a thin mattress and, they leave the light on 24/7."

@timmiller.bsky.social talked to a veteran who ICE wrongly detained and brutalized

The kids are playing a game. One is saying that the other is under arrest, and the one in custody is saying, “I won’t talk without my attorney.” At this moment I’m a very proud parent/former public defender.

It requires *two* sponsors.

I would never pass the “I have two appellate friends*” test.

*who know my name.

Correction, 2015.

Last two weeks of May of 2016.

Or at least, that was the last time I wasn’t afraid.

What middle and upper class cis het white people need to understand is that they only have as many rights as the most vulnerable do. You have only the rights trans people and immigrants do.
ryanmarino.bsky.social
Do you really have any rights if they are openly saying they will just make up reasons to detain you?
thematthill.bsky.social
Wow. Greg Bovino admits on camera that his agents can detain people if you look scared, change your demeanor, or grip a steering wheel too tight.

As his unmasked agents walk around with large guns to scare you, they may arrest you just for that — even if you're a U.S. citizen.

They are awesome.

Witchgrass: A Small Town Investigation. MJ Banias and Kennedy Chappell unearth a case the town seemingly forgot. Following threads from waterlogged files, redacted reports to shamanic visions, chasing a truth from inside an unlocked apartment. Coming soon.

I am, however, taking off at 4:00 on the 17th and the 31st, for Halloween events. So. I have some things to look forward to.

(Anyway that’s my villain origin story. My husband’s uncle, longtime roofer, dying of cancer, was being sued. He was afraid his wife would be left with nothing, and needed someone to talk him through it. Making sure someone gets through this kind of crisis is something I can do.)
anyuse.bsky.social
I think that’s around when the next chapter comes out. The defense case!
anyuse.bsky.social
The next two chapters (which are the last two) will knock your socks off.

Even more history.

Even more hot cross action.

And property records and maps back to 1826!

(Also pretty much what I think is an answer to “but did he though?”)

Exhibits are done but I am telling myself I can streamline it. (I never end up using this many).

Opening I will leave a little longer.
anyuse.bsky.social
Subpoenas will go out today, jury instructions done long ago, impeachment mostly done, motions in limine will happen on the day of trial. (I don’t like it, but this is what this judge prefers).

Last week was other cases, nearly all are ready for hand-off.

Sometimes I think about the year I spent, it seems, working only on cases involving people who fell in holes.

Large holes, small holes, all kinds of holes.
anyuse.bsky.social
I wrote the next two ahead of time, so trial won’t interrupt the ending.
