Gave the oldest a Heeland Coo valentine, took the youngest to try archery and blacksmithing, and ran four miles (too slow but felt good). Oh and I'm making deep dish pizza. Pretty good day.

We have a local historic site with a Spanish mission and fort with and Apalachee Indian village. About once a month they offer archery for kids, really fun.

This is shortline railroading: a train of four cars, probably bound for 3 different industries. It's the "last mile" connection from a transcontinental rail network to small town businesses and a remnant of a time where railroads carried just about everything to just about everywhere.

One way or another, Trump is going to screw with the 26 elections.

Likely: sending troops to swing districts to intimidate voters & suppress turnout.

Also likely: declaring fraud & challenging counts in swing districts.

Unlikely but possible: declaring a state of emergency & suspending elections.

Locking up women will definitely solve the fertility rate!
Fuentes, yesterday: “Our #1 political enemy is women because women constrain everything, every conversation, every man, everything. They have to be imprisoned. They are the ones that are hurting the fertility rate. They're the ones making us sympathetic to poor people, which are also brown people.”
Nick Fuentes: “The number one political enemy in America is women. … They have to be imprisoned.”

always so funny to me when people are like “how am I supposed to explain Gay to my kids?” my kid asks me way harder shit all the time. “why did they build the road this way? why are some people bad?” I don’t know. please ask me about Gay

Thinking of the trope of having an average person do each Olympic event for comparison. They should have Vance ski the women's downhill course.

Had to block someone today for being an unprovoked asshole and then doubling down. Maybe they were having a bad day, but it's not my problem anymore. Blocking is great.

Highest honor I can only aspire to
Swiss ski racer Franjo von Allmen just won gold in the Olympic downhill.

He already had achieved a different kind of immortality: There is a sausage named for him at his local butcher.

What James said. On Twitter I've seen multiple people fall for a scam where a DM from a friend (from a hacked account you follow) asks if you can vote for them in a podcast contest.

I believe that voting in podcast contests would violate my podcast objectivity so I haven't fallen for it.
In past 36 hours, have had:

-Several "spear-fishing" and AI-enabled fake Paperless Post invites.
-Several fake/impersonation Substack accounts

All rebuffed.

Be careful out there. Enable 2FA everywhere. Hover over links before clicking. Change your important passwords now, just for the hell of it.

Mixed feelings about everyone skeeting reactions to the Olympics in real time. I get the fun of it, but those of us who can't watch live and don't want spoilers are kind of screwed, it's impossible to mute everything.

@stevengodfrey.bsky.social I've never cared much about the quality of week 1 games, I'm so starved for cfb I'll gladly watch any and every game. It's weeks 2, 3, etc. where I want to see quality games mixed in and the sport often falls short.

Luge is my favorite Olympic sport. It would be so much fun to try (on a slower bunny course obv)
During part of this we discussed Alpine Luge, which is an amazing sliding sport that sadly is not in the Olympics.

Anyway, here's what that looks like, with one of the greatest to ever doing it giving the demonstration down the track in Deutschnofen
