I haven't been able to post much. Last Wednesday, a tree fell on our house and killed the love of my life. I had my dream man and my dream house and lost both. I thank the community who's helped because I'd be 10X more screwed without that help w' death costs & being out of work to handle everything

I am cloning my almost full SSD C drive to a much bigger one in preparation for major laptop surgery. Already seeing why Kent procrastinated on this. Wish me luck. Also seeing that I will need to upgrade my D drive soon too.

A little late, but the world sucks, so this is a fun trend to continue. Also, I'm old and had to look up course titles.

Tell me 5 classes you took in college:

Posted about getting more copies in of my 80s summer camp slasher romance and my sword and sorcery romantasy that's a shameless homage to Sansa Stark and Sandor Clegane and realized this perfectly represents the duality of my romance writing. And we haven't mentioned my horror without a romance arc.

I always wonder about people whose only posts are reposts. I'm not talking about bot accounts, but ones I know are real people. Like, do they have any of their own thoughts? Or a desire to converse with anyone? I know I have little room to talk because I haven't been on here much lately. But still.

Watching doc about resilience that reaffirms many changes I made last few years to my mental outlook (I read a LOT of brain books). Brains are hallucination engines. If the story is the world is shit, everything is fucked, brain reframes every interaction this way. It impacts behavior; shuts us down

It me. Though my poor Fit needs a ton of work to get her back to maximum badassery. I'm going to be using a chunk of the Go Fund Me donations to get her back to reliable.

I managed to pull Kent's guitar quilt from the wreckage. It only has 2 big tears and 2 holes from the tree. I painted each square and Grandma sewed it. Pretty sure my horror quilt is ok. Though yesterday, when getting prescription cat food we saw that the room caved in further into Micah's room.

My agent has some wonderful tips on New Year's goals.
Ever resent the implication that the changing year requires changes from you, as well? On this New Year's Eve, I'm taking a look at what a new year should mean, in my latest newsletter: nepheletempest.substack.com/p/chasing-no...

I'd sent my newsletter out last night, letting my subscribers know what happened and finally got around to scheduling a talk with my therapist.

The first part is about the tragedy, but then I cover what's coming for books in 2026 and what's in store for my writing.

My website is down and I don't know what to do because Kent was my webhost and IT Guy. I used to be able to shout "IT GUY!" from my office and he'd fix it and I'd hug and kiss him. 😭

I am so honored. This story was a blast to write. "The Waitress" is part of Kandisha Press's #WomenInHorror anthology, Pretend You Don't See Her.
If you're an #HWA member, I sent out a mailer to read it for free because it's eligible for the Bram Stoker Award.

So I am going to say something about romance as a genre.

A lot of people think that romance is ignorable because <insert thing they think about romance> and romance authors don't count because <insert thing they think about romance>.

This thread is not about whether you have to like romance.

And another thing: anyone willing to allow their grievances to be weaponized by the fascists in this of all moments is decidedly not someone to be taken at face value.

Good ones for Little Brooklyn: Batman Returns and Jurassic Park. And Mom walking us out of Powder to sneak us into The Good Son instead.
Bad one for Little Brooklyn: The Super Mario Bros movie.

Good for grown Brooklyn: Seeing JAWS for the 1st time in theaters AND in 3D! Same with NOES & Hellraiser.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

Weird Al joining a cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name" was not on my 2025 Bingo card, but it is soooo good.

The latest ai-generated marking email I got put in a direct quote from To Wed a Warrior, which isn't out until Friday and that quote IS not in the final draft I uploaded to retailers. That means the ai was able to scrape the placeholder file I had on KDP.
I am so sickened and creeped out right now.

My son and I are going to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.

Yeah, Tarantino's insufferable, but I loved Volumes 1 and 2 and My son was too young to see either on the big screen. Plus this cut has more blood and gore for me and more anime for him!

My 30th novel is compete.
To Wed a Warrior is a standalone romantasy set in the Brides of Prophecy universe in the Westeros-esque country of Wurrakia.
The hero and heroine are homages to Sansa Stark and Sandor Clegane. #Romantasy #GameOfThrones #SanSan #Romancelandia #BookSky #DecemberReads
