Throughout human history, a few assaults on science and knowledge are infamous: the burning of the Library of Alexandria, the arrest and attacks on Galileo, Soviet Lysenkoism, Nazi book burning, and now the wholesale destruction of US scientific excellence by Trump.

I had been dreading the treaty anniversary as an occasion to note that we have not done nearly enough, but in July I thought we might be able celebrate it. Because, on 23 July, the international court of justice handed down an epochal ruling....

“every new solar panel erodes just a little bit the logic of oil imperialism.

“The push for clean energy is the push for peace.”
We need renewable energy to take a bite out of the climate crisis but also the authoritarianism crisis

Right now we’re just doing oil piracy

Love this! And hello.. that’s where i live 🙂
Give this article a read if you’re burned out and looking for a new way to imagine democracy.

“Life is a shared project, and all of us benefit when we cooperate to ensure that there is less suffering, and more joy, in the world.”

How might things be different if we took this sentiment seriously?
Meditating on the connectedness of life could help reunite a divided country – here’s how ‘interbeing’ works
Meditation can change our perceptions about things we encounter in our daily lives − revealing the interconnectedness of reality.

Pretty much all the professions really. I know of climate scientists who are saying a version of this. Environmental consultants too. All in the last week. May something (or some ones) wiser and more connected and rooted rise out of the chaos and crises.
The psychotherapeutic professions, I believe, need to use this collective, global crises to reconsider themselves and their mission

And there so much denial, resistance and fear and avoidance

So grateful to @bethsawin.bsky.social for (re) posting this beautiful thought, which i first encountered on Twitter (before you know what) and which I’ve been quoting ever since

Such a clear expression of the connection between the false idea of our separateness and systemic suffering and injustice
For capitalism to keep operating it has to convince you that you are thing that ends at the boundaries of your body rather than a flow connected to uncountable others. After all, you can't really profit off extracting from yourself.

Protect your innate sense of interconnectedness, though it will be violated by the current order many times per day. What is powerful is not always true.

Guardians and protectors, now i step into this great charnel ground, this great bardo called the Internet.

I recognise that this is a place of wild and precarious forces. A place where i may see things disturbing and distracting that will tug at my attention and try to get in.
