One of my favorite videos about St. Louis. Fitting that it be formally (re?)released on her 261st birthday!

To all of the non-St. Louisans out there, give this video a watch. We are St. Louis — and I don't believe we've met!

This is the first Thanksgiving for Sophie & Colin Hortman without their parents, Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman who were assassinated along with the family dog in an act of political murder. National guards troops were not deployed to the state in response.

When we begin the work of rebuilding our society, can we pinky-promise to establish a medical sector that believes women? Especially women of color?

I don't need a vagina to understand that IUDs, pap smears, pregnancy, general maintenance, etc. hurt. Come on now. Believe women.

Cracked Foundations is phenomenal and has done quite a bit to expand my understanding of the "other side" of my subject area. I definitely recommend it for anyone curious about the intersection of federal policy, capitalism, and the American Suburb!
I don’t have a new book to promote, but four of my former students have their first books coming out this academic year and, people, you are going to hear about them.

Hot take: Elected officials and planners should dismiss complaints about the aesthetics of new housing projects and counteract that we have a housing affordability and homelessness crisis.

That said, this looks like a a great paper
NEW PAPER w/ @cselmendorf.bsky.social & @jkalla.bsky.social:

An under-appreciated reason why voters oppose dense new housing, especially in less-dense neighborhoods: they think it looks ugly and want to prevent that, even in other neighborhoods.

Some of what we think is NIMBYism might not be!

Brilliant piece from 2002 on why we needn't modify Humanism with adjectives, such as the one I've used for years: 'secular'. If it's good enough for the American Humanist Association and Humanists International, it's certainly good enough for me!

Delaying my writing today by diving into Michael Glass's new book "Cracked Foundations: Debt and Inequality in Suburban America" and let me tell you, the Housing Act of 1949 really has done a lasting number on just about every facet of society. Truman was so proud of it, too!

Nothing quite so chilling as your carbon monoxide detector suddenly going off! Luckily, it's just notifying us that we need to replace the unit — a separate, newer unit moved to the same spot hasn't sounded, and five beeps apparently means that it's time to replace. Nevertheless...! 😱

Good Lord, is tonight a full moon? I've felt off all day, the food processor decided not to work right as I added melted chocolate to wet ingredients(!), and then I sliced the absolute hell out of my finger getting saran wrap, flinging just as much blood as expletives at the walls. Mercy me!

I've seen some scholars postulate that SCOTUS could move to build upon State Department v. Muñoz (2024) by taking away the legal privileges of marriage in lieu of overturning or dissolving it. At the very least a reminder to remain vigilant in the defense of our rights.
