One of my favorite videos about St. Louis. Fitting that it be formally (re?)released on her 261st birthday!
To all of the non-St. Louisans out there, give this video a watch. We are St. Louis — and I don't believe we've met!

I've seen some scholars postulate that SCOTUS could move to build upon State Department v. Muñoz (2024) by taking away the legal privileges of marriage in lieu of overturning or dissolving it. At the very least a reminder to remain vigilant in the defense of our rights.
The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a call to overturn its landmark decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.
Supreme Court rejects call to overturn its decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide
The justices turned away an appeal from Kim Davis, the former Kentucky court clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

I'm not sure this was so much a "yay Gays!" decision as it was "this will be a logistical and legal nightmare, which we hate more than the gays!" decision, but I'm nevertheless pleased for the rejection.

St. Louis Lambert International is not among the 10 hardest-hit hubs this weekend, but it is on the FAA’s list of 40 high-volume airports ordered to trim flights by as much as 10% during this government shutdown. https://tinyurl.com/42mpbvux

The current state of our country makes me want to hop back in, I'll tell you that. Might have to join a campaign once I get past this application cycle!
Pay attention to what Democratic candidates are saying right now. Find and support the fighters. Having a spine must be a litmus test issue in 2026 and beyond.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

St. Louis cat owners — can you recommend a vet? Our elderly feline has a ✨sideways lower fang✨ and the absolute earliest the Humane Society can see her is next week Thursday.
She isn't displaying any behavior changes or pain (even secret cat pain), but still...! Recommendations, please!

Extremely skeptical of this, which immediately reminds me of the tenement housing that led to Pruitt-Igoe. The Board of Aldermen should've read the Mayor Dickmann files at WashU and read the pleas of that era.

Truly, you never know what you'll come across in an archival collection. Today, that meant holding a letter from a Japanese woman who survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima as a child. Not what I was expecting in foreign correspondences to Mayor Raymond Tucker, but welcome nevertheless.

it's utterly wild how the Heritage Foundation president talks about other people

As I've said many times, you can't build the mass deportation apparatus without first building the police state apparatus.

You know, the past five years have been pretty brutal for us extroverts. No longer is there a sense of community, nor meaningful friendships. Everyone is shut off behind a screen or earbuds and headphones. People are cold, disconnected. It's gruesome and depressing, at least for me. Bah humbug.

Curiously, Steve Bannon intentionally groomed young internet gamers into Far Right extremists c.2008, albeit not via Halo if memory serves. I'm curious as to who the target generation is here — young Millennials? Impoverished older Gen Z, who played older, cheaper games? Might be overthinking it.
