Wow, wow, wow. This has always been legally possible but the law has virtually never been enforced — and now this is the SECOND case I've heard of in the last month (first involving a person with a green card) of a noncitizen being charged for failure to carry their papers.

NEWS: ICE gave a Rogers Park man a $130 ticket for not having his papers on him. They rounded him up last week and eventually let him go, but not without a fine that some critics say is un-American. Trump admin enforcing little-used law

People getting snatched off of the streets - leaving little to no information behind unless someone sees it and videos or shares it. America, 2025.

ICE is all over the city and burbs today, including Waukegan. Multiple reports on social media from people who have found empty work vans and are trying to locate family of their owners. This is a near daily occurrence now.

"The race is on!! Everyone will go from the pavilion to the Richmond Center Schnucks to get the grocery items."
From the event description. I think a LOT of locations would work for hosting, this is an interesting one - especially as it crosses into the County/Clayton.

What also keeps getting overlooked in this round of "town hall" PR is how they're intentionally only mentioning the 85k sq ft center at 500 Prospect Ave. Not talking about the 250k sq ft Armory itself, or the OTHER property on Spring Ave just across the tracks they ALSO bought in May.

The idea that there are activists and citizens who attend protests because it’s what they believe in is completely foreign to them. If it isn’t a personal grift, they don’t understand the motivation.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed. After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

If you rename the Department of Defense the Department of War, then bomb fishing boats in the Caribbean, and shoot an unarmed priest in the head with a pepper bullet, you should automatically be barred from receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for the rest of your life.

Good luck to Texans in doing the same.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is not a handout — it’s a policy that saves lives and sustains economies. TPS families are a vital part of the social fabric of the United States. They are workers, parents, community leaders, and active members of our neighborhoods. #DefendTPS

They want the increasing harm to pregnant patients at scared and under-resourced hospitals in abortion ban states to be blamed on immigrants instead of their own anti-life policies and the stripping of funding for healthcare and hospitals. It's THEM, not immigrants, to blame.

This is horrifying. I've been in the same room in Missouri with this human being and his family and the idea that he is calling for "cleansing" in this climate - would he say that to our faces? The show is disgusting and dangerous, and maybe he really believes it.

Whether you're a casual news reader or a breaking news reporter at the NYTimes, I implore you--please, please, please--do not believe or report DHS/ICE/CBP's side of events uncritically. End the state's monopoly on legitimate storytelling. They are not the objective arbiter of what really happened.
