Update: Chris Armas reached out. We spoke on the phone. He apologized. I accepted his apology. He posted a public apology on the other site.

Thanks for sticking up for the little guy Matt.
Appreciate all the comments from the SB Nation peeps

Matt is out here showing a level of introspection and grace we should expect of all of the journalists we follow, regardless of subject, but especially in sports.
🧵 Hi MLS BlueSky. This is @bymattpollard.bsky.social, BW Managing Editor. It's been 24 hours since this exchange with Colorado Rapids head coach Chris Armas. I've given it some thought. Let's talk about it.
Here’s the video at the start of the question. Decide for yourself if @bymattpollard.bsky.social is in the wrong here:

He should get the invite to first team preseason. Club is really high on him. He impressed more than any of the R2 guys who got call ups.
Appreciate the vindication Jake.
Appreciate you and all the other former SB Nation peeps backing us up.
Appreciate you Dave. Really thoughtful takes from you and Tom on the Sunday show.
Appreciate you Sam. It’s overwhelmingly vindicating to see so many, including lots of former SB Nation peeps, back us up.
10. If you liked any of this, support our Patreon. Local MLS coverage is struggling. We made a small profit in 2025! Would love to pay our intern & add staff with Summit starting up. Saturday aside, THE RAPIDS were great to BW this year. Courage. Keep fighting. UTFP!

9. What can I learn from this? I preface ?s to provide context. Chris saw it as a dig. I didn't pick up on his sarcasm. That made it worse. I can ask questions differently to get a more useful answer. "Be curious, not judgement." I look forward to Chris meeting me half way.
“Chris Armas has been a shining example of how to coach the Rapids from a human perspective… …He has been a great person to interview and get to know throughout this season, and continues to be a great person.” Published Sep 11, 2025.

Should Colorado Rapids Extent Chris Armas' Contract? - Burgundy Wave
It’s a contract year for Chris Armas, and the time for contract extension talks is starting to approach for the second-year head coach.

8. The reporter becoming the story never ends well. No matter what, we're getting a ~3 month break from each other. That's good for everyone. But also, part of journalism is fact checking. In the spirit of defending our coverage vs that verbal punching down, here's some receipts:
7. I still think he's a good fit for the club. I'd bring him back for 2026. He could have had better/quicker support the last two summer transfer windows. The imperfect coach you know is better than an unknown. His future will be decided by results, not press conference behavior.
6. To anyone who has negative opinions of Chris, judge on his performance as Colorado Rapids head coach. Not on how he treated me. I forgive as a gift to him and myself. The best way I will feel supported going forward is for you all to join me in giving that to yourselves.
5. That moment contradicted who I want to believe Chris is. He's positive and likeable. I've seen RBNY media talk about him being punchy, but not like this. 2024 was his redemption. I hope he redeems this. To think that could be his final public appearance as Rapids head coach...
4. Thank you to everyone who reached out to support/defend me. I got many DMs, comments, quote posts from Rapids fans, other Rapids media, former SB Nation colleagues, multiple current/former CLUB EMPLOYEES, and national media stars. Your defense of me is vindicating.
3. He is a good human being. We all have bad days. One ugly press conference this & last year don't cancel out 99 good chats. It's been a stressful 2 months. Saturday stunk. His future's uncertain. He took it out on me. So be it. Chris, I forgive you. Unconditionally.
2. Life and football are about opinions. I have lots of opinions about Chris and the club. He's allowed to have opinions about BW's coverage. Even if he's in the vast minority (Anyone out there agree with his take?). I disagree with his opinion. I do so with respect.
