I wish the media in Toronto covered the $100 billion transit expansion more than one dude on YouTube.

If Ontario wants to expand the capacity of the Highway 401 corridor - extending the Sheppard subway as a regional express subway with new tunnels and elevated guideways would create both more capacity, faster travel times, and for far less than even a few more lanes would cost.

When I visited it in Seoul last year, it was such a nice place to be. Way better than what came before it!

A big part of Toronto's urban / transit problem is that the quality of urban / transit planning is just remarkably poor. We might be building, but its the wrong things and too late.

This has been the most rewarding yet exhausting campaign I've run yet.

It was my first time leading my own organization & campaign instead of being part of one.

From getting ppl to delegate at 3 budget meetings, canvassing @ bus terminals, & news/social media outreach it's been a crazy few months!

I know a lot of people are mad at Olivia Chow & the city for not doing anything on the bike lane removals & while many would say it’s because the city has no power in this situation.

The truth is, they’re working tirelessly to fight this just as much as the advocates. They just can’t talk about it.

It turns out the most effective tool to get more housing built might just be: stop forcing people to build parking….

as of today, the toronto subway has 11 active slow zones (ten on line 1, one on line 2), down from 16-18 the same time november, 25 in september, well over 25 in the summer.

since september (ironically, when rick leary resigned), the TTC has been fairly on track with repairs and lifting slow zones.

When high-demand cities don’t allow single-family homes to be redeveloped into apartments, they will often end up redeveloped into much larger and more expensive single-family homes.

Why does #Canada spend billions more than other nations building subways, commuter and light rail?

Because it's too parochial to peek outside its Anglosphere rut.

That's the conclusion of @chittimarco.bsky.social + other researchers...

Increasing the cost and complexity of a transit project to satisfy the whims of a few affluent NIMBYs sets a terrible precedent for future transit projects. If one group of people can get this kind of concession, others will try too.
This one upsets me the most.

Spending millions to change alignment & go deeper to 45 meters for the 20-40 homes & 15-23 yards of affluent ppl.

This project brings access to one of the fastest growing areas in the country, giving transit access to millions. Slowing it down for a few ppl is selfish.

I'll continue on with what is now the third public input session on the #WRcouncil budget (only two had originally been planned). This is now my third council meeting I'm watching today so I don't know how far I'll get before I need a break, but let's give it a go. Please forgive any typos!
The second (of two) public input sessions on the #WRcouncil budget is happening today (Nov 27/24). You can view the meeting here, or follow along for updates (I'll also try to share posts from other sharing about the meeting as well). www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi5Q...

You thought Doug Ford’s bike lane ban is the end? Nah, he’ll ban all bus lanes that remove road lanes as well.

He doesn’t just hate cyclists, he thinks you are worthless if you don’t drive.

We’ve had viable solutions for mobility both within & between cities for a long time, like high-speed rail, prioritized public transit and networks of protected bike-lanes. We need leadership. And we need to stop letting “shiny new tech” distract us from implementing them. Image via UrbanThoughts11
