Pope Leo XIV told students not to use artificial intelligence for homework, saying that AI ‘won’t stand in authentic wonder before the beauty of God’s creation.’
Does anyone have book recs for novels (or story collections) that came out in the past 4 years or so that prominently feature characters struggling with psychosis, schizophrenia, or who've suffered some break with reality/make the reader confused re: what reality is, stuff along these lines?

it is depressing to find Reddit threads about the common mistakes AI makes in creative writing and see people a) being very honest about the impossibility of getting AI to write anything good, while also b) talking about spending “hundreds of hours” trying to get AI to creating interesting writing

I completely failed at “writing on the side” of various day jobs for like 15 years, then wrist pain made day job untenable so the choice became quit job + move back in with parents, or get into an MFA program

(everyone who complains about not enough men/masculinity in literary fiction should be forced to read no fewer than five (5) books by trans men before they are allowed to publish any more opinions)

Zadie Smith’s “On Beauty” broke a long streak of not reading books for me, and her prose was like this signpost pointing me back towards literature and the love of the game. I’ve felt that way about most of her prose, like whatever it is that I want to be able to achieve with words, she has it
for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

new blog post: Getting It Up for the Good Guys, in which I seek to answer why I find sad literature so much more compelling than its opposite, and compare Garth Greenwell to Tumblr posts arguing the moral worth of darkfic: caiomajor.substack.com/p/getting-it...

saw One Battle After Another. loved it, obsessed with it, and also, I now have a perfect example to point to when I say that I'd rather see white artists attempt ambitious stories with characters of color/stories about racism and have the results be flawed, than for those attempts to never be made

Why is it that doing my PT exercises at home is infinitely less rewarding and satisfying than weightlifting at the gym? Is this something that like a professional hypnotist could help me with

for one of my classes we watched a documentary on the formation of the Chicano Rights movement, and it was both inspiring and deeply depressing to realize how much worse anti-latinx racism has gotten since the 1960s
