I grew up with Alex Pretti
The kind-hearted ICU nurse shot by ICE agents was my childhood best friend.

oh yeah? this is a PR crisis? the PR is cringe? that's what's going on here? the situation is that the PR is cringe? we're asking WTF they're doing (from a PR perspective) because so far it's been cringe? "what happened" is shaping up to be crisis-level cringe? i feel like my brain is on fire
“Straight cringe” and it’s about the state smearing a murdered person as a terrorist.

This woman is a parody of Beltway journalists.

I think one of the single most impactful goals we should aspire to is rebuilding generalized public awareness of the nuts and bolts of civic operation. So many of our problems are downstream of people not understanding the work that undergirds their day-to-day experience of living in a society.
One of the hardest things to do is bring campaign-level communications to the work of governance, and snowstorms are notoriously one of the biggest litmus tests that less-engaged voters use to judge mayoral administrations. This is an excellent way to communicate.

i know it makes me naive but i am always surprised at how willing people are to lie like this. It's so difficult for me to imagine deciding to forgo any sense of morality. I don't think I could ever decide the world only exists to be exploited! I don't think I could shake off my care for people!
Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

Genuinely the only thing keeping me going—but it really is keeping me going—is how good it is to see people link arms and push for this to end.

I cannot stop thinking about how much love people can have for their neighbors, and how much work and money is poured into breaking that love apart.

He leans down to help the woman who was pushed up off the ground and out of the snow. She tries to reach up for a hand up, but because of the ice, is stumbling a little. As he tries again to lift her up, ICE throws him to the ground. FIve men pin him down. A sixth freaks out puls his gun and shoots.

He's directing traffic. He steps inbetween ICE and two women who are being harrassed by them (one of whom was shoved to the ground for no reason), raises his hands and turns away from them and says "Okay! Okay!" to indicate he isn't going to be aggressive, at which point they start with pepper spray
He was helping direct traffic when federal authorities approached him. Less than a minute later he was dead.

ICE agents are getting paid more than most people with real jobs to treat our country like a playground they can destroy. And your representatives are probably voting for it!!!

centrists like to use terminology disputes as a proxy battle for actual policy fights, and engaging is often fruitless. if you don’t like the slogan use something else. but the agency needs to be hollowed out, every existing agent needs to be put on no-hire lists, and there need to be prosecutions.
