Hi to all new followers(friends) a quick thread..

I mostly post my camera trap photos and videos though I do meteor photography/timelapse/3D photography too.

It's a pleasure to meet you all here on BlueSky. I'm new here so learning as I go along.
They rub to remove velvet on antlers, to build up neck & shoulder muscles, display dominance during the rut. Rubs act as visual & olfactory signposts, leaving behind scents from their forehead and nasal glands to announce their presence & breeding status to other deer. #mammals

Buckley, the mule deer buck, following 'his' doe around the garden last night. She took a few moments away from him in the area the raccoons always go, he stood guard until she reappeared into the garden.
It's fascinating to see their lives unfold like this. I don't know how to score deer.

The Raccoonobahn was firmly the GreyFoxobahn last night. This grey fox was living his/her best grey fox life in-between the fences last night.

After a quiet few days, things ramped up last night with a buck mule deer rubbing/destroying part of our moonlight broom. video to follow. #mammals

I don't post political things but I do think this needs to be seen/known about, Nursing is a professional degree and if you think so too, perhaps you'd consider adding your name to this petition.... ana.quorum.us

Thank you (family is full of very professionally degreed nurses).

For those of you wondering, "what does it look like when a raccoon climbs down the fence?" well, wonder no more....

A rather gloomy day here, waiting for rain or snow, cheered up by these bird flight trails this morning, I think its a raven and red-tailed hawk, colors aren't that great as camera is struggling in the overcast conditions. #birds

The garden/yard was very quiet last night but the Raccoonobahn had this coyote and then 4 raccoons traveling together. Not sure if the coyote at the end is the original one or a 2nd one.

My fav bird, there's just something quite magnificent about Flickers. Female red-shafted Northern flicker with take off in slow motion to see the red areas of her wings/tail feathers better.

Raccoonosaurus and the other 'normal' sized raccoons.

Raccoonosaurus is main raccoon in 2nd photo.

#mammals

I'd love to get some Hair/DNA from him to get more info. His size can't be due to eating ALL the food as other raccoons likely have same opportunities. Has to be a genetic component too.

Avatar update: Was at a Thanksgiving/Early Xmas 'do' today and friends daughter who is learning illustration/art (no AI) made me a logo, that's Pikes Peak in the background. I think it's rather well done.

Very quiet around here yesterday and overnight.

Here, a couple of female Northern flickers followed later by a soggy squirrel in the rain. No snow here, another chance on Sunday.

The only commuter on the Raccoonobahn waited until morning before coming by. A plucky insect out and about as we wait to see whether we get snow or rain today (then again on Sunday). We need the moisture but I'm not ready to let the warmer temps go.
Insect flight path then still shot of said insect.

More size comparisons between Raccoonosaurus (right side of each photo) and his friend.

Raccoonosaurus is an absolute unit.

Buck mule deer following 'his' doe.

Bucks will travel long distances and stay with a doe for days if she is cycling into estrus. November is peak time for the rut in Colorado, with the highest concentration of does in estrus and bucks actively pursuing them.

Fingers crossed for some clear sky early tomorrow morning.

Grey fox in the garden. I found a somewhat skeletonized mouse here yesterday morning - first time that's happened. This is a favourite spot in the garden for wildlife, has been for 30 years and still continues.

It’s baby octopus season 🐙🦑

Saw this little guy last night with the Salish Sea School in Anacortes, WA as part of their free community dock walk I volunteer as an interpreter for.

We can tell it is a giant pacific octopus from the single line of chromatophores on each arm.

It was an unusually warm day yesterday, high 70'sF, so the mule deer were quite thirsty when they arrived in the garden.
