a watercolor comic page from the graphic novel La Principessa of a young girl talking with a man on the couch. It ends in a very colorful final panel. The dialogue reads:
Panel 1
"Your name is... Chiara"
Panel 2:
"Tell me a little about yourself, Chiara."
"I'm... waiting for someone."
Panel 3:
"Oh? Waiting for who?"
"I was placed here by the fearsome pirate Il Capitano dell'Azzurro. He deemed me too inexperienced for his voyage, so I am staying put until his return." a comic page in a watercolor style. A girl has a conversation with a man while children look onward.
Panel 1, the children at the orphanage look confused
Panel 2: "And what do you know of this pirate? This... il capitano dell'azzurro?"
Panel 3: "What makes you think he'll return?"
Panel 4: "He WILL return."
Panel 5: "He PROMISED me!" a watercolor comic page of a young girl talking with a man on the couch while children behind her are laughing.

Panel 1: "Because I'm his daughter, the daughter of the pirate captain!"
Panel 2: Children are holding in their laughs
Panel 3: The girl looks defiant as the children laugh more
Panel 4: The man on the couch looks surprised

My entry for @tateufel.bsky.social #FragmentedDreamsDTIYS

Had to do my favourite creepy scene from the comic
Digital illustration of a creepy man silhouetted under a street light and a woman in the bottom left looking at him

Ah thank you! I’m a huge fan of musicals and I grew up on Nancy Drew so it’s a combo I’ve been itching to combine for forever 😁

Sooo hashtags may be down... which means a lot of wonderful #DVPit pitches are getting missed

I spent a lot of time on my pitch and getting my pitch packet in order, and I really do hope someone sees it! But if I get no bites, I'm still making my goddang comic no matter what 🫡

DVPit organizers set up a new feed to try to capture as many tagged posts but it looks like they have to manually add posts into that feed

I'm really hoping today isn't a wash but if it is, WELP
cansofbeans.bsky.social
Yeahhh, here's hoping my pitch gets seen at all but if it doesn't I'll have to do send queries the old fashioned way ahh

Hashtags on Bluesky are down so I'm a little worried about the #DVPit event hoo boy
cansofbeans.bsky.social

Redid my character sheet for Chiara since my art style evolved a bit since last year

I love drawing spunky orphan-gals with a call to adventure
#ocsky #characterdesign #comic
character sheet of a young girl in various poses and outfits in a watercolor style. The top left corner says:
"Chiara (key-ARR-rah)
Themes: The true meaning of family, growing out of childhood
Character Comps:
- Pippi Longstocking
- Addie Pray (Paper Moon)
- Anya (Anastasia)

Left in an orphanage as a baby under mysterious circumstances, Chiara dreams of being whisked away on a grand adventure by her pirate captain-father, a figure she's dreamed up based on characters from her favorite stories. Her wild imagination can be intrusive to reality, which gets her into trouble. She wishes she could wear trousers like a boy, and hates being thought of as a princess."

I had no intention of making Jonathan this hot but here he is

#oc #characterdesign
character sheet of the same man with dark hair and dark eyecircles in different poses and facial expressions. The caption on the top right reads
"Jonathan Marlon
(JAWN-ah-thin MARR-lin)

Themes: Obsession, justice at all costs

Character Comps:
- Jet (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
- Enjolras (Les Miserables)
- Joe Gillis (Sunset Boulevard)

An ex-journalist-turned-groundskeeper to the Di Ferro Estate, Jonathan is secretly searching for his long-missing brother Bruno and traveled all the way from England to find him. Jonathan prefers working alone in his little trullo on the outskirts of the grounds... until Chiara caught wind of his eccentricities."

I originally gave Jonathan an orange sweater but I think the neutral-grays and blues work better for him

The 4K restoration of Perfect Blue was incredible, it still remains my favorite movie of all time even after the 4th rewatch but GOSH I'm so happy I got to see it on the big screen finally

It messes with your head in such a horrifying, wonderful way

There is an over abundance of lyrics on "The Life of a Showgirl".

I am going to draw a comic book analogy: it is possible to make a good comic that has well-placed heavy dialogue, but at some point you have to trust the art to tell the story.
