indigenous visibility in western themes - one that Wolf was happy to include with an artist statement that went along with every poncho given to our Patrons and Donors. We've included Wolf's full statement here. 🦌
Artist Statement from WOLF. Haa Maurawe! I'm Wolf Kin, the artist behind the poncho. You may know me by my shop, HOWL OUT. I am an indigenous (Comache descended) Mexican, trans man. My work spans from cultural styles, to furry, to fashion design. This piece in particular was requested by ANE, and I am honored to have worked on it. Often, Indigenous folks are overlooked when it comes to western themes, as nowadays there is a fear to include us because of having to confront its violent history. Its hard to find a place for us in these themes when we were represented as savage villians of old western culture. This doesn't need to be the case, as it would be very easy to include us in these themes. Being Indigenous to this land, we are the original stewards & knowledge keepers of its care. Cowboys and homesteads are all about that, but from a colonial standpoint. I hope to see more events include us Indigenous folks when it comes to Western themes, instead of being treated as the elephant in the room. This poncho features plains and southwestern Native patterns, with two stags leaping over them. The patterns represent the land. There is so much beauty in our world, if you stop to observe it all. I hope you will take the time to appreciate how these patterns connect and create the whole. Thank you again to ANE for this opportunity, and I hope this poncho keeps you warm and cozy!

The actual story is that a family of American citizens trying to evacuate from a neighborhood that ICE had made unsafe, and then ICE tossed munitions into the car, causing three kids to be hospitalized and a six month old to stop breathing. DHS called the family “radical agitators”

Granted, comics is a small industry, and my sample population definitely skews Fuck-The-Man in general. But artists, as a whole, aren't high-income. They pinch pennies. And Adobe is over here going "THAT'LL BE $500 A YEAR, ASSHOLE." when CSP regularly goes on sale for $125 for a perpetual license.

Data is correct, causal agency is (IMO) incorrect.

The vast majority of ppl who use AI to make images and video have never touched and would never touch Photoshop/AfterEffects/Illustrator/etc. The issue is Adobe trying to squeeze its users with subscriptions, and other customer-hostile behavior.

Important shit that I’m still trying to learn.
I am begging you. Please learn about stress/discomfort tolerance. Practice raising it. You need this to survive. If someone online can ruin your day with a throwaway comment, you desperately need to understand discomfort tolerance and consciously, systematically build that shit. Also! Stress tolerance is such an important skill that having a learning disability in that area is a major symptom of a whole lot of other disabilities/mental illnesses! Struggling with it is a huge part of life! It sucks! Am I saying everyone with misophonia needs to listen to chewing noises all day? No. But you need to find ways to tolerate it enough that you don't treat others like shit if they make a mouth noise near you. No, you don't have to read the fic with your trigger tags. But you do need to be able to handle scrolling past the tags without being upset. It is hard! But not having it also makes you so so so easy to manipulate. That grandma is racist AF because her mom raised her to be uncomfortable around black people and she never fought that discomfort. Trans people make so many cis people uncomfortable and that discomfort turns into bigotry real fast. Letting your discomfort dictate your actions and beliefs about things is a great way to become a terrible person. Learn. Discomfort. Tolerance.

Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board This is a communication from Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board: MPRB Youth Athletics Families, Considering the alarming federal immigration enforcement activities currently taking place in and around Minneapolis and after hearing from families and teams, a decision has been made to cancel all MPRB youth athletics games and practices scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16 through Sunday, Jan. 18. All cancelled games will be rescheduled for a later date. This impacts youth athletics only. We are cancelling out of an abundance of caution for youth athletic families, officials and MPRB staff. We will reevaluate on Sunday evening and share an update early next week. Thank you for your understanding.
