Man, I am so sad to hear the news about Gerald McCormick, tho I knew it was coming. Thankful he's no longer in pain, but his (pre-ALS) presence will be so greatly missed. He was an actually good guy in politics*, which you don't find much anymore.

*I mean, he was in politics. But I really liked him

Just catching up now and it really is the best one yet. Can’t wait to rank them all next summer when the saga finally ends
You can tell 2025 has pan-fried my brain because I just caught myself muttering “this is surprisingly good world-building” about a Ryan Lizza blog

Had dinner at table next to Peyton and his kid and everyone in the restaurant was acting like he was just another dude and maybe Chattanooga is finally growing up a little bit?

A for-profit education firm called Stride is opening a school inside a for-profit immigration prison run by CoreCivic. Stride has been accused of defrauding investors and providing substandard education to children.

And overnight my uncle got moved back to ER and heading back to ICU for pneumonia (again). Just a complete and utter nightmare of complications post-surgery. Do not break your neck, y’all.
A one-time assignment became a steady assignment, bought pretty shoes, practical shoes I got on BF sale came today and fit, and my uncle finally finally moved to rehab after almost a month in the hospital after breaking his neck — pretty good day all around!

I bought them to celebrate my (kinda PT) EIC-ness (but also kinda hoping they won’t fit so I can return them bc otherwise no way will I return them).
Merry Christmas to me, I'm now no longer the interim (part-time) editor of a college alumni magazine? (I should not buy these but also they're really marked down?)

I absolutely share the general concerns about "romantic" gay male erotica being written by straight(ish?) women, but this TV show, while based on novels written by a woman, was created by a gay man, and it definitely shows — and there is a lot of pretty explicit softcore sex!
Yep it totally sounds like this show has been "desexed"

I had shingles IN MY INNER EAR in my mid-30s and I couldn't walk in a straight line for a month. There's no fucking way any vax side effects are worse than that. Get it if you're 50+ or at high risk. You do not want shingles, I am telling you.
I had a *mild* case of shingles a few years ago, and it really sucked. A lot. I subsequently got the vaccines (you bet I did) and developed a low fever for ~12 hours after, but it was waaay better than ever getting shingles again. I’m not a doctor but jeez.
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

In the era of slavery, free black people had to carry their "free papers" with them so they could prove to the authorities that they were free, or else they would be thrown in jail and sold.
BASH: If ICE says it doesn't arrest US citizens, why do we keep seeing incidents of them aggressively pursuing citizens?

HOMAN: I can't tell you how many times an illegal alien claims to be a US citizen. It happens all the time.

in honor of Duke winning the acc championship do people want to hear the voicemail Steve Spurrier left me in 2008 while I was in class explaining to me how the coaches’ poll bosses told him he couldn’t continue his tradition of putting Duke at No. 25?

Surprisingly emotional, y’all. We never beat Bama in the SEC Championship. And it wasn’t close! And we looked good!

Wild to type, “Never in doubt,” against Bama and it’s somehow actually kinda true?!!!

@jazco.dev Hi, does the Bsky Profile Cleaner still function? I haven't been able to get it to work for me for a bit – not sure if I'm doing something wrong? (It's been really great before, and thank you for making it!)

I got curious about the booming enrollments at Southern flagships, even as big publics elsewhere cut programs. The appeal of gamedays and Greek life plays a big part, but aggressive recruiting does too.
How SEC Universities Won the Enrollment Wars
The ascendance of Southern flagships is a story of sun, football, and a sophisticated recruitment strategy.
