Gonna be awkward when CBS wins an Emmy for a news program it refused to air.
Cool how we are smuggling domestic news in over the border from canada and people having to share it on bulletproof hosting providers to stop the government and media owners taking it down

I just think it would be better if I could go to the doctor’s office and the doc could say “you need these pills in this bottle I have filled for you.” No prescriptions.

Straightforward from here:

1. Threaten to do unconstitutional things to health insurers.

2. Deploy national guard units to intimidate and provoke violent reactions from health insurers.

3. Blockade health insurer offices.

4. Bomb health insurer company vehicles.

Not beating those rumors about his failing health by adding his name to a building designated as a “memorial.”
Wasting no time, the Trump administration begins adding his name to the Kennedy Center building, ignoring the understanding that it would require an act of Congress. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/12...

Once again, it makes a lot of sense why Trump keeps bankrupting stuff.
There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

It’s category error to believe that the things you post on the internet will have a measurable impact on the “dangerousness of the right.”
IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

December academic challenge: “don’t say prenumbras, don’t say prenumbras, don’t say prenumbras”
Not to worry, articles will soon issue explaining how this is more complicated than it seems.
NEW: President Donald Trump says he is granting a pardon to Tina Peters, who was convicted on state charges related to tampering with Colorado's election systems. Legal experts say presidential pardons do not apply to state charges.

How did Scandinavian Christmas become like 60% Saw sequel?
Tonight Stekkjastaur, the first of Iceland's 13 Yule Lads, comes down from the mountains. He likes to sneak into the sheep shed to drink milk from the ewes.

All the children put a shoe in the window for him to put a treat or a little gift in – if they have been good! The bad children get a potato.

The idea that something isn’t real until some stupid chatbot says it it’s real is gonna get us all killed.
This is extraordinary and extraordinarily revealing if true.

“An artificial intelligence chatbot unveiled by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday appears to have described airstrikes against suspected drug smugglers at sea as 'unambiguously illegal.'”

Look good work everyone building up a solid base but we need everyone to be praying harder.

Christmas is in like 3 weeks people.
Okay I need everyone—everyone—to start praying for snow in Colorado for December. This is very specific.

Snow.

Colorado.

December.

Everyone.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Kalishi just seems like a really terrible thing.

Like creating-a-hedge-fund-to-buy-radioactive-waste-to-catapult-at-schoolchildren level of terrible.
The co-founder of Kalshi says: " The long-term vision is to financialize everything and create a tradable asset out of any difference in opinion."

I'm just trying to understand: Are they trying to make us hate AI in all its manifestations but also make it the only loadbearing member of the economy?

Because it really seems like that's what they're doing.

Look, being president requires a lot of stuff. And policy positions matter.

But on spec I'd love to cast a vote for Mark Kelly for president.
Kelly: He runs around on stage talking about lethality and the warrior ethos.. That’s not the message that should be coming from the Secretary of Defense… He runs around on a stage like he’s a 12 year old playing army. It’s embarrassing.

It’s a fun debate but if the man on top says “kill them all” and the general decides he has to go back and kill the survivors to fulfill that directive, I don’t think the man on top is off the hook.

So the man says he doesn’t know what part of his body got MRI’d and that’s supposed to evade concerns that it was obviously his brain that got MRI’d.
