1) my synagogue openly calls for an end to the genocide in Gaza, and it doesn't stop of us from receiving threats and requiring security.

2) "just don't go to the only synagogue(s) in your location on Yom Kippur" is a ridiculous ask of observant Jews.

If any other president in all of history said the military should use American cities as a training ground he would be removed from office that same day. The hardest thing to tolerate in all this is how relatively silent elected democrats are. It’s ridiculous.

I attended West Point from 1998-2000. I left, along with about 5 other young women, as a direct result of the military’s then-shameful (non) policies addressing sex harassment and assault.

It seems so clear that Trump has hit the stage of being swayed by whoever has his ear most recently. The winner will be whoever has the greatest access. The loser will be every single one of us who care about other people and the planet, because the people with the greatest access are sociopaths.

But that pain and anger are also there for those who care about anyone and want Trump to care as well. That's been true for years for many of us who care about people who have been Trump's targets. Now it's also true for those who cared about Kirk, and Kimmel's sin is making them face that truth.

Of course those who love him and care about him are angry. It hurts to not have that reciprocated.

And that hurt about Trump not caring will always become anger, because they know that hurt won't go away. Trump is near the end of his life, and has never cared about anyone—wives, children, friends, colleagues, employees, supporters, people. And he will never start.

Anger is fear that a hurt won't go away. It's easy for the hurt of a loss to become anger, which is why anger is one of the (non-linear) stages of grief. But there is also terrible hurt that Trump evidently doesn't care about Kirk (who he was close to), and by extension doesn't care about you.

And Kirk's supporters are furious at Trump for caring so little about Kirk. But that challenges their devotion to Trump, so they displace their anger onto Kimmel, and imagine that Kimmel somehow criticized Kirk.

Trump is furious about being laughed at. And he is abusing his power to get revenge.

Trump's supporters are furious that Trump is being laughed at. But they know that's a sign of weakness, so they are pretending to be furious about what Kimmel said about Kirk.

Kimmel didn't say anything negative about Kirk's life and he was clearly appalled by Kirk being shot. Kimmel did mildly criticize Trump's lack of empathy and humanity BY SHOWING TRUMP'S OWN WORDS, and got his audience to laugh at Trump in the process.
