Heya folks, I've been doing a lot of follows on this site based on interests and posts in common, while others of you have found me, probably from my profile. And I love making friends! But people in the SPN fandom have strong opinions, and I figure I should make where I stand clear from the start.
This bundle is an amazing deal if you like queer fiction and supporting trans folks and trans rights. (And who doesn't?)

So... OpenAI is getting sued for helping kids commit suicide, "mechahitler" Grok is created custom CSAM, companies are getting sued for using AI-gathered data illegally, newsfeeds overrun by inaccurate AI newslop, and Discord wants to know how we feel about AI. Yeah, I have a few thoughts on that.

THREAD: I'll fact-check all the viral misinformation about the US military operation in Venezuela in this thread

This image, purporting to show the US military arresting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, is AI-generated.

According to Google's SynthID detector, it was created using Google AI.

As five seasons of one Shiny Thing come to an end divisively with some fans declaring it the worst ever now that their hyperfixations have moved to the new sHinieR thing (and before the cycle repeats anew when the next even shinier thing shows up), perhaps it is time for a little introspection.

Or you could just not use the site; I've found dissecting things for their tropes actually decreases my enjoyment in the end. But more importantly, decisions like these are good reminders that sites that won't let you in without demanding unnecessary data aren't to be trusted.
TV Tropes is blocking access to the site not only if you have ad blockers on but location tracking off unless you want to subscribe to their $5 a month/$25 a year subscription plan. Even people who have turned their ad blockers off are reporting the site isn’t working. This all seems like a bad idea

When platforms are forced to block “anything that might harm kids,” the result is overreach. A real rights-respecting solution to keeping people safe online is one that's built on user control, privacy, and smart design, not censorship. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
Blocking Access to Harmful Content Will Not Protect Children Online,
The UK is having a moment. In late July, new rules took effect that require all online services available in the UK to assess whether they host content considered harmful to children, and if so,

there’s a popular digital guide written and used by police that recommends sharing links with URL tracking elements to capture people’s IPs.

Linkumori is a browser extension that purifies URLs before trackers can log you.
I saw an infographic a couple years ago about how to remove source identifiers from links and why it's important, but I can't find it again and too many people I know are sending me links with them so here's an infographic straight from the oven

Fix this: I hate that you can't block bigots without deleting every rebuttal to their bigotry you made when it breaks the thread. There needs to be a way to push back against Nazi bullshit, and then prevent the Nazi from interacting once you've made your point without erasing all the work you did.

FFS, kids, don't do this shit. Not only are you CENSORING A BOOK, you are censoring someone else's real, recorded queer history. This isn't something to be proud of. It's pathetic. We have to fight hard enough to keep copies of Gender Queer: A Memoir in libraries in the first place.
