Help out our editor (and also occasional guest and wife of co-host Miles) as she finally has her reconstructive surgery nearly five years after her initial breast cancer diagnosis. Every little helps!
Five years after her initial breast cancer diagnosis, my wife finally has her reconstruction surgery, but we’re looking for help in covering the wages in the month she’ll need away from work so we can focus on her recovery first and foremost. Anything helps!

Farewell to Willie, one of the ship’s cats. Occasionally mentioned whenever a story had a Kitty in it.
Some heartbreaking news, one of our cats, Willie will be to put to sleep today due to illness. He was always friendly and always loving and he will always be loved.

Sometimes the logistics of co-hosting a podcast can seem like a lot of work, especially with time zones between us, but editing @casualtrek.bsky.social always reminds me how much of a joy it is to talk bullshit with @milesreidlobatto.bsky.social each time, both about Star Trek and our many tangents.

We here on Casual Trek always like to bring up out favorite non-Star Trek things we’ve been enjoying this past week. All you #StarTrek and #podtrek people out there, I ask you:

What NON-Star Trek thing have you enjoyed lately?
September 25, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Non #Startrek thing @milesreidlobatto.bsky.social has been enjoying. ‘Aliens in the Mind’ a 1977 BBC radio serial where Vincent Price and Peter Cushing uncover telepathic mutants on a small island and their spread through British Government. Worth it purely for Cushing and Price double-act. (1/2)

I've seen so many activist organizations die this exact same way. Just burnout and lack of communication and the relentless pressures of keeping going with too little resources.

there is a certain irony around tech bros who believe that the work of writers is largely worthless, while also claiming at the same time that they desperately need to use that written work - without compensating human authors - so they can make a bazillion dollars off LLM products.
I've spent my entire life being told that everything I do is useless, mocked and being told no one should be paid for "underwater basket weaving," and now they're like, "I must steal all the underwater basket weaving lore because it's imperative for my survival"

Eat farts, my dudes.

#Startrek comics finally read- Homecoming by @tillybridges.bsky.social was a lot of fun (I remember the old Pendant Defiant fan audio), especially the coughing Doctor. Red Shirts still feels a bit too mean spirited for Trek, but I’m still going to keep reading to the end.

Occasionally we’re too British for #startrek and it’s generally utopian prospects, when that happens, we tend to watch #space1999 (celebrating 50 years this week!) for something far more British, bleak and bloody weird! Here’s the first ‘Space Scamps’ archive ep!
