I’m Charlie Etheridge-Nunn, I write comics, reviews of RPGs, I take part in self-induced marathons of comics & books (X-Men, 2000 AD, Call of Cthulhu & Cyberpunk Red) and host a podcast about Star Trek called Casual Trek. I’m often found wandering the South Downs and coastal towns.

We ended up in science fiction, rocketing around from planet to planet. Sadly the FLGS closed right as we were on the final act, so the film was cut short but I reckon we’d have saved it.

We’re in Hollywood in Arkham Horror tonight!

I asked my LCS to make sure I was down for it and ended up in a massive conversation about the DIE RPG. It felt like I’d come full circle from when I worked there and people would tell me about their games.

We went on a ghost vigil at Preston Manor last night.
Preston Manor in the dark. The withdrawing room, before they switched the lights off. The leather wallpaper in the seance room. The seance room again. My partner (front right) and a number of other people taking part in a table-tipping ceremony.

It was an interesting review. Personally I found it closer to Laukat’s games in the storytelling and Breath of the Wild as an open world to mess with. There’s definitely an art to describing locations, which my group have enjoyed. We’ve even started sketching our journeys.

I’m always excited to see more Kyle Starks!

Each one of these feels like a low level Call of Cthulhu antagonist.

Oh god, it’s Bird Brain, the worst of the New Mutants! And yes, I am including Gosamyr and Magma in that list. #DailyXMen

The only correct take on a fundamentally anti-human technology.
Screenshot of David Simon interview
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

There’s only a few hours left on this investigative science fiction game set on the bones of old empires. It felt like what I wanted Dark Heresy to be, with tricky moral choices, strange horrors, weird locations and a nice camaraderie between under-resourced protagonists.

I get all of the X-Books as something’s wrong with me, but even so, this feels like too much.
The list of X-Men: Age of Revelation comics. There’s the surprise zero issue which arrived a month late to my LCS, the Overture one-shot and then 17 issue ones.

The Age of Revelation books from last week have arrived in the UK. I’m hoping that not seeing anything being talked about then in the last week was just people being polite and waiting for me.

Eighteen sessions in and season one of Blades in the Dark: Deep Cuts is over. A gigantic airship has crashed into Whitecrown, half the group are stuck in the Lady Blackbird universe and the Rowan Family are worryingly aware of the crew. The players were amazing and unpredictable.

Hey! Had a couple things end up not starting this month, which is kind of not optimal for me, a person who needs to pay bills. So! If you need commissions, short comics, full comics, covers, prints, concert posters, album art, and you like what I do, maybe hire me!

He took his face… off. #DailyXMen
Weapon III, The Skinless Man, standing above Fantomex whose face has been sliced off. Psylocke is also there, bound in skinless digits, dressed as Captain Britain.

It’s surprising to see some Captain Britain bullshit turn up in Uncanny X-Force, but I’m pleased to see it, also some Morrison things with Weapon III. #DailyXMen
Otherworld. The Captains Britain are at war. Fantomex on trial with Jamie Braddock as the prosecution and Her Whyness, the Omniversal Majestrix Opal Luna Saturnine as judge Betsy as Captain Britain. It’s Meggan! And Widget!

I wasn’t going to, but figured it was my fourth Blades campaign, we could try it and drop anything we didn’t like. Advancement is in a currency of clocks (classic Harper!) which you fill and then spend as downtime actions to train up. Invoked Harm also adds to XP now.

I’m just finishing a campaign of Blades using the Deep Cuts extra rules. I’ve been loving the way it’s hacked downtime, harm and advancement. Threat rolls are fine but took some getting used to, and in 17 sessions my group got Edge three times.

I’ve reached the end of The Dark Angel Saga in my marathon and there’s always something kind of satisfying about getting a comic that’s been sealed for years and breaking it free. This thing’s for reading, after all. #DailyXMen

I like how The Between actively says ‘fuck that’ to being historically racist, sexist or ableist. We’re playing in the setting but this is a game about Victorian monsters (both players and antagonists). This is a fictional space and we own it at the table.
From The Between’s core book, the session one teaching guide.

Also, I want to tell you that even though this is a game set in a historical time period, we aren't going to dwell on historical accuracy. We'll do our best to represent the technology and culture of the era, but we're going to get some things wrong every now and then, and that's ok. I'd also like to point out that, during this time period, people with marginalized identities would likely have been treated very poorly in society. We're going to ignore that part of history. In the world of THE BETWEEN, things like race, nationality, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, able-bodied-ness, and neurodivergence are not a social barrier.
