My (now) weekly update on 2026 NIH funding.

New and competitive renewal awards.

3 new awards (compared to ~100 expected based on recent years).

No new ICs... still just NIA, NINDS, NIDCD, and NIDCR.

Native to China, they have a "truncated abdomen" called an 'opisthosomal disc', that functions as camouflage.

When threatened, they retreat to their hole in the ground & plug the opening with their coin-shaped butts, creating a "false bottom" to the hole with their *real bottoms*.

It's good someone did this analysis but frankly the fact that the bullets entered through the side window and not the windshield should have been proof enough.
The NYT has a new video analysis of Renee Good's shooting which is careful, accurate, and clear - he walked across the path of a moving car, then leaned in and shot her with his feet well clear of the vehicle. 1/

I think Dem electeds should take moral stances & then work to change public opinion.

But it's notable that another centrist Dem group has a memo that 1) contradicts Third Way's "don't say 'Abolish ICE'", 2) is based on actual research, 3) didn't get an NYT story.

Joe Rogan’s Harsh New Takedown of Trump ICE Raids Hands Dems a Weapon
When a Trump supporter refers to ICE as the “gestapo,” a door has definitely opened. Will Democrats charge through it?

This is surreal. 4 Oglala Lakota men kidnapped by ICE in Minneapolis have finally been located. One of them was released but the other 3 are being held at Fort Snelling, a former concentration camp used to imprison Native people incl. the Dakota 38 during Dakota Wars.

Six medical organizations plan to ask the courts to throw out the revisions to the childhood vaccination schedule released by the CDC.

The revisions aren’t based on scientific evidence, they based on misinformation.

Public health is at risk.

At the Senate hearing on abortion pills, @murray.senate.gov blasts GOP chair Cassidy for failing to hold RFK Jr. accountable as promised: "Wasn't he supposed to be here quarterly? Wasn't he supposed to leave the vaccine schedule alone? And isn't this committee supposed to be conducting oversight?”

The appropriations bill that includes NIH is being finalized.

The Senate bill includes a bipartisan amendment from Senators Capito (WV) and Baldwin (WI) limiting multi-year funding of grants.

The House version does not and OMB has issued a veto threat if the House includes such language.
