Encouraging news about the power of communities resisting ICE gangs.
For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

Solar+batteries is just going to win.

Solar is comparatively cheap. It's the easiest for power companies to deploy (~1 year vs. 5-10 years for conventional power plants). It's inexpensive to maintain. It's environmentally beneficial. And it can add value to farms by providing shade.

It's a winner

Joy is still available even in these challenging times. I made this Christmas pillow a few years ago. I haven't done any quilting lately because I'm finishing work on a novel, but I still enjoy the quilts of past years.

His deed was "his way of conveying his gratitude for staying in Australia, for being granted citizenship."
