This is an absurd situation: my driving licence must be renewed every 10 years, but there's absolutely no requirement to prove that I'm still competent to drive a potentially lethal piece of machinery.

As feared, the Chancellor has not raised the financial costs of driving to drivers.

I note that media commentary indicates that to do so would be "political suicide" - which reminds me of my mentor Professor John Adams saying that the alternative was actual suicide - or at least serious

Think of the public spending we could spend £s on. My personal favourite is £5 bn. p.a. on social care (amongst other benefits easing pressure on hospitals) - what's yours?

Your 🧵for today from @psimonk.bsky.social :

"...the Mayor's bold & brave Transport Strategy targets & Net Zero 'ambition' increasingly look like bad jokes. "

I've some queries re-danger measurement, but the fact is that TfL + Mayor are not doing what is required to cut car usage and road danger.
Lack of political will in London is perhaps most starkly visible in inaction around London's most #DangerousJunctions

Interesting short 🧵here. Maybe other factors (the immigration policies we hear so much about), but if @carltonreid.com and @colville-andersen.com are right...serves the losers right!
When I was in Copenhagen last week, Mikael Colville-Andersen (founder of Copenhagenize; coiner of “cycle chic”) said ruling Social Democrats were unpopular partly cos of new pro-motoring policies. Duly wiped out in elections.

Only posted this a few hours ago, but Mr Dashboard says only c.50 of you have read this rdrf.org.uk/2025/11/17/d... and we do think it's important: not just because we need to raise £s, but because it's important to show that motorists do NOT "pay their way".

I appreciate tackling illegal motorcycling isn't easy, but the police shouldn't be just objecting like this.

Let's reclaim our streets - and let's also reclaim the term "Low Traffic"! It's hugely desirable for loads of reasons and, despite what some media voices want us to believe, it's hugely popular too.

Whilst I do appreciate the effort to make this street more inviting, the new hopscotch on Downham Road is just no substitute for a scheme that would’ve eliminated traffic or enabled safe cycling. We need to be much more ambitious.
