Not that NIH was ever gonna fund me ever anyways but there goes any semblance of a shot at it 🤣
“The NIH will not fund…studies exploring broad, poorly defined concepts such as racial microaggressions or implicit bias”

Implicit bias is extremely well-defined

1st paper in thread. The 2nd & my last submitted paper of 2025 is my big theory paper that took over a year to write. Some of you have generously invited me to speak about it but very few have seen the paper. I propose what I call Racial Contrast Theory, to examine Black-Asian relations

Great news: finally Miles Hewstone is exposed. I stopped citing him years ago, I warned friends/colleagues when I saw them publishing together, I informed as many people as possible about him. We all did. Had this piece been published 15 years ago, everyone would have already known. Shame on Oxford.

These young people are, in their own way, teaching seminars on identity every time they post. And it reminds me that the best social science takes what folks already sense about the world and treats it with the theoretical and empirical seriousness it deserves.

I wonder if this has to do with the fact that it's harder to get funding for basic science research. Anyway, happy to die on my non-funded basic science hill 👋

One of the things that I find so frustrating about academics who have gone all in on AI is their failure to recognize how much their own thinking was shaped by the very tasks of reading and writing that they are now dismissing as obsolete.

the amount of academic research now using llms in research (synthetic data generation, to classify, annotate, or analyse large scale data, etc) is astounding. remember, just cus use of llms in research is becoming normalised does NOT erase the fact it degrades the research & undermine your results

So apparently, the US Gov, in their most recent series of dog whistles, are pulling LOTR references and are outright saying that their fascist reign of terror is akin to protecting the Shire. Absolutely fucking not. The comparison is a straightforward dogwhistle, don't let them confuse you.

I really hate that most of the actual research papers people share now are on Linkedin. If I have to learn how to do Linkedin speak to stay up to date on academia I may just become one of those hermit academics that doesn't socialize anymore...😭
