Your point about the value of boarding the vessels to gather intelligence makes perfect sense. Failure to do is what has convinced me that these strikes are not about stopping the flow of drugs but rather about making political statements and seeing how far this admin can go in flaunting the law.

Another outstanding essay by Noel. What I so appreciate about his work are his insights around aesthetics that help us understand the danger that Trump represents.

I agree but change, if it is possible, is going to take some time. First, the negative economic impacts have to hit hard. That won't happen for at least several months, if not a year or two.

Second, they have to overcome the cognitive dissonance. That is tough, painful psychological work.

The tragedy here, to mix history and fiction (with apologies to Rousseau and Dickens), is that when the call goes out "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche," some of the masses will reply "Please, sir, may I have some more?"

That video of him piloting that jet was truly, truly disturbing. Long gone is the idea of a president serving all Americans, regardless of political affiliation.

And the imagery couldn't have been more graphically telling: a president who literally and figuratively wants to sh!t on the people.
