Re-watched BLITZ (2011). This is such a strange film. On the surface, it's like every maverick cop film ever made. But there are so many weird - and I'm convinced unintentional - choices. The Staths chalk'n'cheese partnership with Considine has no arc that fails to set up the ending.

In anniversary news which I can’t quite verify, it may be 39 years (possibly more) since the Indian Air Force dressed their helicopters up as elephants for Republic Day

Watched FIRESTAR: FIRST CONTACT (1991) after seeing Target Even Island I had to check out another Cliff Twemlow film. This Alien rip-off is a superior film, but it's much less enjoyable as a result. Without the quirky or eccentric choices or haphazard plotting, you're just left with a bad film.

Film fact: No film featuring an exploding helicopter has ever won Best Picture. This year's nominees keep that streak alive for a 98th year.

Watched MOUNTAINHEAD (2025) I probably should have skipped this because I'm past the point of laughing at these people. I'm more at the pitchforks and torches point.

Watched GUADALCANAL DIARY (1943) it’s always interesting seeing mid-conflict WWII films and it’s the tone that’s the most striking element. The Guadalcanal was a strategically important and hard fought victory for the Allies in the Pacific theatre.

New Schlock Pit! 🚨

My love letter to Katt Shea’s gritty and darkly comic masterpiece, STREETS (1990).

It really is a fucking brilliant movie.

Watched AFTERBURN (2025) post-apocalyptic treasure hunting flick with Dave Bautista. There's the requisite quotient of action, but the film commits a cardinal sin and fails to give us a reason to care why this happening. Watched COMMANDO NINJA 2: INVASION AMERICA (2025) this send up or love letter to Eighties action films is often a lot of fun, but it was in desperate need of an edit. At two hours, too many subpar 'bits' are allowed to suck the life out of proceedings. Feels a little mean to be harsh on a...

Re-watched TWILIGHT'S LAST GLEAMING (1977). This is the 6th Richard Widmark film I've seen this year. At this rate, I'll have watched 140 of his films by the end of the year.

Watched HYSTERIA (1997) psychological horror where the inmates have taken over the asylum. Periodically good, frequently an indulgent mess. Patrick McGoohan, frequently an eccentric actor, gets to enjoy himself as the bonkers doctor in charge of the facility. Amanda Plummer gets a wild role too.
