Always a pleasure to see him.

Did you used to be played by a different actor? Like Lucy in Neighbours?

I always think this. As tv tries so hard to be films, it loses the spontaneity, the theatricality that I have always loved so much. The golden age of British tv was approx 1960-1995. The issues you note go hand in hand with scaling back and selling off of BBC. Old is gold, new is poo.

It’s so weird that there’s a pit with embankments around, just waiting for them to hide in

Unexpected rabbit hole today is discovering that "Phwoar!" was first recorded by the dictionary in 1976, and 1972's Carry On Matron may be its first film appearance.

I thought I'd found an earlier 60s TV use, but it seems "Phwoar!" is firmly a 70s phenomenon.

Thank you for finding that. What an amazing man.

It’s one of my top ten films but not likely to get in tv at any point because of the yellowface. Now you’ve suggested it, I might watch it tonight! Stefan Dennis’s loss is my gain it seems.

So much of M&W is timeless and hilarious, and this is a perfect example

I can’t bear Davison and Fielding together in interviews, commentaries, etc. Snide, loudmouthed and bullying.

I think Adric is more normal than the Doctor, and MW more naturalistic than TB, in the opening Tardis scenes

I think about this sometimes. One day I will prob make the same decision. Reading posts like this and @chazzersmurf.bsky.social are all steps towards it.

Bloody love that album. Fantastic range of songs, and every one of them a blummin banger

“Special tv show. Ask for details”
This suggests they hadn’t booked anything when the brochure was sent to the printer.

Thanks for the Julia Jones info. A familiar name, and I know I’ve seen loads of her stuff.

The final scene of Letters is devastating, and the final line leaves a lump in the throat every time.

Steph Cole’s play is always overlooked too.
