Lots of typing today. Usual caveats apply: I try to think things through but may have either not chased out a particular line of thought, or worded something badly. If anyone has issues with anything I’ve written, reach out to me either public or privately as you feel you need. Please tell me.

First week done. Yeah, lots of rust to knock off, and some things I'm going to have to relearn on my own time. But, it's progress.

You really think anyone who's shoving Age Verifications online would do that? Just go and violate data protection laws?

I've been wondering why Dominion Voting Systems suddenly reached settlements with Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and One America News.

Turns out, it's been purchased by a Republican-owned election tech firm that insisted on it, per Axios.

You can do it! And it’s good to see you around. :)

Guess it's time to feed work through the AI-poisoning treatments before posting, now.

Fine. Time to make them a problem for their moderation company.

VOLITION - Subdue the regret. Dust yourself off, proceed. You'll get it in the next life, where you don't make mistakes. Do what you can with this one, while you're alive.

So we’ve all been feeding all of our images through AI because Bsky doesn’t actually want to do the work to maintain their service.

It’s telling it one snapshot at a time. You put enough snapshots together and you get a comic, a novel, a movie.

I've been working on an essay about The Struggles of TTRPG Outreach and Fandom but I think this tumblr post just captured the whole sentiment im like 100 words.
Fact: Apart from pure recognition factor, one of the major reasons your fanart gets more eyes on it than your OCd is because people are perverts for narrative context, and your OCs don't have any.

Corollary: you don't actually need to write a whole-ass graphic novel to achieve that narrative context. You do need to know what your OC's story is, but once you do, you can literally just draw contextless snapshots from that story that raise more questions than they answer and people will fill in the blanks.

Stephen froze like a deer in the headlights and pretended to have connection issues because he unintentionally gave away the game plan.

“Plenary authority is complete, absolute power over a specific area or issue, with no significant limitations."

Show people this clip. This is an insane slip up.

I didn't know about this Signal For Help hand gesture until today. I'm quite sure that a lot of other people don't know it either (as demonstrated in this video). If you just learned it now too then it was worth posting.

Still, there's something inherently violent even about dice rolls. It's like every time you cast a die, something disappears. Some alternative ending, or an entirely different world...

Can Tire can in a pinch (just be careful, they can be… interesting), otherwise your Local Garage, your dealer, hell even Costco (I think) should be able to do something.

This -is- amazing. I know a number of Irish artists, I sincerely hope you can take advantage of this.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

to everyone saying “i’m moving to ireland”

…you do realize that you can advocate for fair artist payment in the states… right? this didn’t happen overnight and neither will the US version of this.

sue me for being optimistic

It’s attachment as a whole, it’s always a blade that cuts two ways. It’s why relationship breakups are so brutal usually, two people are shattering their self-worth and self-image. When it’s a character, it’s cutting out a piece of yourself. Drawing back from being so invested is its own issue too.
ciraeon.bsky.social
Oh yes. It’s a day by day, moment by moment choice to make over and over again.
ciraeon.bsky.social
This is one of the -hardest- lessons of “no self”. Once you are attached to the outcome, there is suffering. Changing your view of yourself is phenomenally hard, and once you’ve gone and fallen into the trap of “you are the work” trying to untangle from it is… the work of a lifetime.

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.
